'I work in McDonald's and you shouldn't order 'normal' coffee - it's not what you think'

We all love a cheeky McDonald's every now and again, but one employee of the fast-food chain has claimed that some of us aren't being specific enough with our orders - and it's causing confusion.

Abbie Selby explained that she can't stand it when customers order a "normal coffee" with their breakfast McMuffin, as the word "normal" can change from person to person, depending on what type of coffee you usually drink.

The woman said that some customers simply ask for "coffee" when they place their order, and when asked if they want something like a latte or a cappuccino, they often tell her that they just want a "normal" one.

But that leads to confusion because while Abbie would make a white coffee in that situation, she sometimes gets complaints from people who say they wanted it black.

In a TikTok video posted to her @abbieselbby account, the McDonald's employee ran through several things she finds irritating at work, with the coffee debate first on the list.

Acting out a typical interaction, Abbie said: "Hello, welcome to McDonald's, what can I get for you this morning?", to which a customer responded, "Can I get a double sausage and Egg McMuffin meal with a normal coffee please, love?"

The woman then proceeded to list the types of coffee available, before the customer cut her off and said: "Oh no, no, no, I don't want any of that. I just want a normal, normal coffee."

But after receiving her order, the same customer came back to the counter and complained about the coffee, saying: "Hi, I just came through the drive through and I was given a white coffee, when I specifically asked for a black coffee."

And Abbie then explained: "Oh, I'm so sorry, that must've been my mistake. You said normal coffee so I just thought white coffee. So I'll just get that changed for you."

In another part of the video, Abbie detailed the frustration she feels when she cleans away the rubbish left on an empty table, only for someone to pop up and claim it was theirs.

She explained that even when there's no food left on the table, some customers will accuse her of throwing away their meal - and cheekily demand more.

The employee also said it can be annoying when customers go to place an order before deciding what it is they want - especially if they have young children who like to change their mind.

While acting as a customer, she said: "Can I get a chicken nugget Happy Meal, with [turns to child] what milkshake do you want? A banana milkshake, please.

"Actually, no, sorry, he wants a chocolate milkshake now. Oh, no, sorry, he wants a fruit shoot now. Oh, sorry, he wants a little Fanta instead. Oh no, I'm so sorry, he wants an Oasis now instead."

The final thing that drives Abbie insane is customers who complain about the food they ordered several days ago - and demand fresh food be made for them.

Abbie's post attracted fellow McDonald's workers, who took to the comments to share similar situations they've found themselves in while dealing with customers.

One person said: "I binned someone's food because it was literally on top of the bin and they had a go at me."

While another added: "This is so true, all of it! I hate them kind of customers."

Meanwhile, a third wrote: "Someone handed me three large hot chocolates that they ordered 24 hours before and they were all still full but cold and told me they tasted like water."

McDonald's has been contacted for comment.
