A House-approved rescissions bill targeting $9.3 billion in spending cuts, including $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and $8.3 billion in foreign aid, is encountering significant resistance in the Senate as Republicans navigate competing priorities with limited room for error.
According to MSNBC, the bill, which narrowly passed the House with a 214-212 vote, follows the Impoundment Control Act of 1974’s special process. This law requires presidential recommendations for spending cuts to receive congressional approval within 45 days, or the administration must proceed with the allocated spending.
