Bold Street Coffee's newest Liverpool venue isn't scrimping on flavour or aesthetics, with gorgeous food in a truly beautiful setting.
I love going out for breakfast. It's not something I often have the time to do, so whenever I manage to pop into one of Liverpool's incredible cafes or restaurants, it feels like a proper treat.
Most days are so hectic, I give myself a pat on the back if I manage to eat a bowl of cereal in the morning. I was especially keen to try out Bold Street Coffee's new haunt and was delighted when the opportunity finally arose this week.

The new site, based on the ground floor of the swanky Plaza building on Old Hall Street is conveniently located - especially for us Echo reporters - in the bustling business district. The first thing that struck me was the impeccable décor of the venue.
Bold Street Coffee The Plaza oozes chic and cool sophistication, with wooden bench seating juxtaposed with plush velvet bank seats and a mix of Scandinavian and mid-century wooden stools and chairs. The ceiling gives a nod to industrial styling with exposed piping and lighting rigs, though they've been painted in a calming pale peach colour that ensures it's not a stark contrast to the luxurious touches flooding the space.
There are sheer drapes adorning the vast windows, large Terrazzo style tiles in a neutral colour and plenty of warm wooden feature walls adding warmth while creating a calming environment. I could have happily sat and people watched all day.
The food menu is equally satisfying, with a compact yet varied selection of sweet and savoury treats to indulge in. There's bowls of yoghurt, granola and porridge, pancakes, traditional fry-ups, an array of eggs, sandwiches and more.
I opted for smashed avocado (£9.50), which is made up of smashed avocado (obviously), feta cheese, poached eggs, sesame and honey on toasted sourdough with red pepper coulis. The avocado was creamy and fresh, while the eggs were poached to perfection, with the yolk satisfyingly oozing out once they were cut into.
There was a bit of a spicy kick that I wasn't expecting, with chilli seemingly laced through the avocado. I’m not the biggest fan of spice and thankfully it wasn’t too overpowering, though it was on the verge of being so.
Despite the deliciousness of the dish, I do think, for the price, it's far too small of a portion - the dreamiest pizza I've ever eaten in Liverpool (so far) cost less than this! I felt quite hungry just a few hours after finishing this breakfast too, so I don't think the cost is fair for what you get.
My friends and colleagues each chose the chicken katsu club (£7.50), which is made up of crispy fried chicken, curry sauce, pickled cabbage and lettuce on a choice of white or granary bread. They were big fans of this tasty sandwich, though the curry sauce was a little too mild for Phoebe Barton. Emily Sleight was impressed with the generous helping of chicken though less enthused with the price. She said: "I'd rather go to Greggs."
I will definitely go back to Bold Street Coffee, though it's not somewhere I’ll eat regularly because it's quite expensive with relatively small portions. It's a beautiful venue though, with tasty, well cooked and fresh food that's served with care and attention to detail.
Bold Street Coffee has two venues in Liverpool. One can be found at 89 Bold Street, L1 4HF while its second venue is located at The Plaza, Old Hall Street, L3 9JQ.
