'I was told' - Jamie Carragher hits back at Rio Ferdinand as Saudi Pro League feud continues

Jamie Carragher has continued his online feud with former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand as the pair continue to clash on the recent rise of the Saudi Pro League.

On Thursday evening, Ferdinand labelled the former Reds defender a hypocrite for remaining silent about Steven Gerrard's move to Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq, which was announced earlier this week. It comes after the Bootle-born former defender, who made 737 appearances for the Reds during a stellar Anfield career, had previously raised concern over the "sportswashing" of the Gulf State and called for the Premier League and UEFA to intervene.

In response to Ferdinand's initial video, in which he bizarrely claimed Carragher used to carry "Gerrard's boots and bags at Anfield to games," the Liverpool legend accused the former Manchester United man of refusing to condemn the human rights issues which dominated the build-up to last year's FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

However, on Friday morning, Carragher again hit back at Ferdinand and defended his initial scepticism of the Saudi Pro League's recent activity in the transfer market.

"I wasn’t fabricating I was told that by a few people, probably what happened with you over the Qataris buying Man United a few weeks ago!" tweeted Carragher to his 2.2m follower on Friday morning. "If you think the Saudi league buying players is the same as the other leagues we will have to disagree!!"

It comes after Ferdinand resumed the feud earlier on Friday morning, tweeting "Fake news @Carra23. I’m a man that embraces all cultures - join the club, no need to fabricate James ! I was never asked to do the opener...I never saw uproar from you and others when the PL, Aerie A, PSG, Barca, RM, Russia etc we’re plucking the best talent from other leagues…keep the same energy!!"
