Emily Ratajkowski’s Living Room Just Made Me Excited About Neutral Decor Again – Pattern, Color, and Materials Do All the Heavy Lifting

Emily Ratajkowski.

I love neutrals as much as the next person, but when it comes to my decor preferences, I like at least a little color in my spaces. Emily Ratajkowski's living space has perhaps mastered the perfect balance between a neutral foundation and colored (and textured) accessories, and I am taking notes.

The model recently shared a glimpse into her living room on her Instagram page, and I was immediately drawn in by the blend of natural materials and colors, from the rich, wood floors, to the rattan media console, alongside the red velvet accent chair and purple Persian rug.

When considering neutral living room ideas, I am definitely going to return to this photo for inspiration. Even when dealing with neutral fixtures like floors and windows, adding subtle amounts of pattern and texture can go a long way.

Shop the Look

According to design experts, EmRata's strategy is one to replicate, as it maximizes visual intrigue without sacrificing the calming color scheme.

'This look is a masterclass in how to make neutrals feel anything but boring. Emily’s space proves that a neutral foundation does not have to be flat,' adds Megan Slack, the head of celebrity style at Homes & Gardens.

'Layering in rich textures, natural materials, and carefully chosen pops of color, like that red velvet chair and purple rug, brings the room to life. It is effortlessly chic, inviting, and perfectly balanced, showing that thoughtful accents can transform a simple space into something truly memorable.'

To recreate the look in your own space, we love this velvet swivel armchair that's exactly like Em's, as well as this rattan media console from Kelly Clarkson's collection. Additionally, this oriental rug comes in a lovely shade of pink and a stain-resistant material, making it a fail-safe buy for a neutral living space.

Above all, if you're really committed to a neutrals-only living room, layer textures and materials, like wood, velvet, and linen, to maintain visual interest. It's a look that will never go out of style.
