A woman has decided to move back in with her parents despite working multiple jobs to stay afloat.
Demi-Lee Burns has a full-time job and works two side hustles but has told her TikTok followers that living away from home is no longer sustainable during the cost of living crisis. She has now made the difficult choice to sacrifice independent living in order to get back on her feet.
As reported by the MEN, the 27-year-old is currently documenting her move home on TikTok. She said in a video she is "sick to death" of worrying about money and "counting pennies in the supermarket" to check she can afford the food she's there for.

She explained that she made the decision to move back in with her parents after living on her own for over a year. She said on her TikTok account demileeburnsx: “With everything going up it has literally just become unaffordable. I have a full time job, I also make money on the side doing make-up and content creation and it’s still not enough."
In a video that has since gained over 110k views, Demi says she is taking what she sees as a “massive step back” in life by moving home so she can save up and pay some stuff off “and basically start again.”
Demi acknowledged she is in the fortunate position to move back in with her parents so she can get back on her feet and added that she will be contributing to her parents bills as she stays there, however is disheartened the cost of living has gone “so out of control” that she has had to make the decision.
In another video, Demi elaborated on how the cost of living crisis impacted her, particularly the price of energy bills. She explained: “I was slapped with a massive electricity bill that I just cannot afford to pay and what they want from me going forward is also a completely ridiculous amount."
She added: "Last month I apparently used £290 of electricity which to me is absolutely wild because I’m so cautious with heating and I’m very aware that it’s an expensive thing." Demi, who lives on her own in a two bedroom apartment, examined her budget and realised the only way she could stay living in the apartment would be to take on an extra job.
Outlining her frustration, she said: “I’m sick to death of worrying about money and counting pennies in the supermarket to check if I can afford the food that I’m there for. I’m sick of waking up and checking my online banking to see if anything else has come out that I didn’t account for, it’s tiring, it’s so draining."
Many people who viewed Demi’s TikTok and commented on her videos where she documents life through the cost of living crisis have applauded her on making the decision and agreed that the cost of living crisis is getting out of hand.
One TikTok user commented: “It’s so hard at the minute, with bills etc and even having both me and my hubby working we don’t have much left so are careful on food shopping etc.”
Another TikTok user said: “I work 7 days a week and still struggle with living costs. Hope you can get back on your feet soon. It's disgusting how they expect people to survive.”
One viewer said: “So many people will be doing this. Very smart thing to do!”
Another chipped in: “I’m having to do the exact same thing - I bought my flat in 2020 and it’s such a struggle now. I thought it was a step back too we’ll save so much!”
A fellow viewer added: “I've done the same thing! Literally 15 months moved out totally on my own but can’t live! It’s not a step back, it’s a side step."
