'I was released after paying Rs 14 lakh ransom'

JAMSHEDPUR: A restaurant owner of Telco area lodged a police case on Monday claiming that he was kidnapped by unidentified criminals on Friday and set free the next day after he paid Rs 14 lakh ransom.

Complainant Akash Kumar Sinha (37) alleged that he was kidnapped by a gang of about 11 criminals from near Golf Ground at Golmuri last Friday. Two SUVs intercepted him when he was driving home. The miscreants, impersonating as Army personnel, tied his eyes with a black ribbon and took him to a vacant house. They demanded Rs 60 lakh as ransom for his release, Sinha added.

The complainant said he arranged Rs 14 lakh from his relatives and friends and got the money delivered to the kidnappers at the Jubilee Park gate in Sakchi on Saturday. After receiving the ransom money, the kidnappers drove him to Sidhgora and dropped him near the market.

Golmuri police station in-charge Arvind Kumar said, "We are also looking at the footages of the CCTV cameras installed at the kidnapping site to identify the criminals."
