Sammy Hagar has sent David Lee Roth kind words of support after the latter was forced to suddenly pull the plug on his current US tour.
Van Halen’s two most prolific vocalists have often been at odds with one another. Roth even trolled the Red Rocker last August, in response to his claims he wrote a song with the late Eddie Van Halen in a dream. This time, things are playing out differently.
Roth kicked off his current US tour in April, and has spent a portion of his sets reflecting on his humble songwriting beginnings with Eddie Van Halen. However, he’s now removed all but one live date from his website, with no explanation given. Hagar has voiced his concern.
“Hey Dave, Sammy here. I just got a call from [ex-Van Halen/current Hagar solo bassist] Michael Anthony about your tour getting canceled,” Hagar says in an Instagram reel.
“I wanna say from the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry. I hope you’re well. I hope there’s not a physical problem. Honestly, Mike and I love the fact that you’ve been out there doing it, supporting the greatest band in the world that we were both part of.”
Hagar is back on home soil after taking his Best of All Worlds tour with Joe Satriani and Mike Anthony to the UK. In September, the show will have its second Las Vegas residency.

“I’m really sorry,” he continues in his message to Roth. “That’s fucked up. Supporting what we did in this band to keep this music alive. You and I, Mikey, Al [Alex Van Halen], Ed, cannot be replaced. So, when you’re ready to carry on, you go, brother. Mike and I support you.
“I hope you’re well, I really do. God bless, brother.”
Roth was slated to play six shows between July 24 and September 4. Now, the only date listed on his site is in Sturgis, South Dakota on August 7. There has been no public comment on the show cancellations, nor an explanation.
