Plans to carry out a £5.5 million revamp of a shopping centre in Kingswood have been confirmed. The project is part of a bigger master plan looking at rejuvenating the high street area.
Money will be spent on transforming the centre, with redecoration and replacement at the heart of the plan. There are even hopes to remove the old glass ceiling as well.
With the plans to regenerate Kings Chase being announced, I decided I would head down to see what the old centre looks like now.

I’ve never been to Kingswood shopping centre before so I was intrigued to see what it was like. Upon arriving, I was a little surprised at what I saw. The phrase ‘shopping centre’ makes you think of a massive place with loads of clothes shops, something like what Cabot Circus looks like. This was the complete opposite of that.
There was only one small clothes shop, New Look, located just outside of the centre but there were other popular shops like Boots, WHSmith's and even a coffee shop or two. While Sainsbury’s isn’t the only supermarket in the area, with a lisp just across the road, it offers shoppers a convenience as it is right next to the car park at the end of the centre.
Walking around I felt like Kings Chase is what high streets used to look like back in the noughties. It wasn’t massively busy but even with people walking through the place felt almost like a ghost town.
While the centre is a much-loved place among locals it does seem to be a bit tired and run down, the shops look old with one missing a sign, the glass ceiling looked like it hadn't had a proper clean in years and the paintwork looked dull. But hopefully the revamp will provide the place with a much needed face lift which may bring more footfall back to the place.
