I visited a 'cosy' little Nottinghamshire coffee shop and it didn't disappoint

Tucked away in between a number of Chilwell’s independent businesses is a coffee shop that is highly reviewed with almost five stars on Google reviews. Described as a "lovely little coffee shop", reporter Lana Adkin visited the cafe to see what it was like and did not leave disappointed...

Although a sign on the High Road should help you find it easily enough, Canvas & Coffee lies tucked among the businesses on the Chilwell Independent Corner. A lovely gentleman welcomed me into the cafe.

He asked if I would like to eat in or take away. I of course said I was eating in, as I needed a cosy hotspot to warm up in the freezing weather.

I took the menu and being the only customer I had the option to pick where I sat in the little cafe. While there were a few tables for two empty, I couldn’t help but go for the bigger table with different coloured cushions, for somewhere a bit cosier to sit.

The menu had delicious bites to eat - waffles, ice cream and brownies; very tempting for someone with a sweet tooth. Not only that but I couldn’t help but debate on whether I should stick to having a hot drink or spoil myself with an Oreo milkshake.

Yet sat at the table still shivering a little from the icy temperatures outside, wearing my puffy coat and scarf, I brought myself back to reality and played it safe with a hot chocolate to keep me warm. Along with my hot chocolate, I ordered a triple chocolate brownie - if you couldn’t tell I'm a bit of a chocoholic.

Canvas & Coffee is located on High Road in Chilwell (Nottingham Post)

After being served at my table, I couldn't help but notice a doorway with a sofa and fairy lights. Curiously I asked the man what was through there, a little nook?

He replied that it’s a space with a few sofas. Looking for a bit of extra comfort I asked if it was OK to go and sit there.

Kindly, a lady sat in the separate sofa area put on the heater as I sat down on the sofa. This nook area was so chilled and cosy. I jokingly thought it was a bit like one of those fancy set up living rooms in Ikea.

The fairy lights were just the cutest. The dim light setting really made it homely, along with the fake plants, printed wall art and even a bookshelf. The shelving unit was full of books - children's books and some for adults too. It seemed like the perfect place to read, or even have a study session.

After getting my order, I relaxed on the sofa and just scrolled through my phone for a little. More customers came in and chatted away.

My triple chocolate brownie was to die for and me being greedy I scoffed it down immediately. My hot chocolate was in a cute little mug - it really warmed me up from being in the cold. I don’t know if I’m just picky but I really liked how it was a mug rather than one of those tall glasses - it was just more enjoyable to drink.

After a while of chilling and enjoying the calm atmosphere of the cafe, I went to the counter to pay. The staff members highlighted how I’d just missed about 10 minutes of snow.

I was pretty shocked that it had actually snowed, however I told them how much I hate the winter weather. I paid £6.20 for my order and was then offered a loyalty card by the staff members.

I told them I’d never been in here despite not living too far away and how cute their cafe was. I would certainly be returning to Canvas & Coffee when I have the chance.
