I used to avoid updos - but this 2-in-1 root cover has transformed my hairline and my confidence

From ponytails to messy buns, you would rarely see me wearing any updo outside of the four walls of my house.

As someone with fine strands, my hair routine is geared entirely around trying to bolster the density of my tresses – whether that's one of the best shampoos for fine hair or best hair thickening products. My hairline is on the sparse side, so I rarely opt to wear my hair up unless I'm working from home or getting ready to hit the hay.

Fortunately, Laura Geller's all-new root cover-up stick landed on my desk this month and, let me tell you, it's one of the best new beauty launches July had to offer. This nifty, versatile stick delivers fuller, thicker-looking hair in a swipe, while remaining utterly natural to the eye – and it's boosted my confidence tenfold.

RRP: £31

Laura Geller's new root cover-up stick boasts a 2-in-1 cream and powder formula that is designed to fill in sparse areas and offer instant coverage for greys. The outcome is natural-looking, long-lasting coverage for hair that appears thicker and fuller. With five shades to choose from, including everything from warm blonde to black, there is something for everyone.

As I said, I hardly ever wear my hair up out of the house. I reserve updos for my work-from-home days when my strands are looking a bit greasy. My fine hair and uneven, sparse hairline require a lot of time and gel to manoeuvre the strands to make it appear fuller. That's why you'll always find me with a slick hair brush and Oribe's Supershine Wax Stick in tow. But that all changed when I trialled this 2-in-1 root cover-up stick from Laura Geller.

With a cream on one end and powder on the other, you can either wear the formulas on their own or layer the two together for ultimate long-lasting coverage. I opted for the latter and was shocked at how natural the finished result appeared; it looked like hair rather than something that had been painted on.

As for the wear test, I found that it didn't budge (even in 30-degree heat) and effortlessly washed away with a simple shampoo lather. But the real gem of this nifty little stick was the unmatched confidence it gave me when wearing my hair up.

Not only for naturally fine hair like mine, this clever stick would also be a stellar investment for anyone experiencing thinning hair from menopause, allowing you to fill in any sparse areas for a fuller and denser appearance. Not to mention, it's also great for instantly touching up your roots and greys in between hair appointments. Plus, you can even apply it throughout your brows too.
