'I tried the viral duvet-changing hack using the 'roll' method - and it worked'

Let's face it, making the bed is not a fun chore. While switching over the pillows and quilt for the day can be done quickly, the idea of changing the bed sheets seems like a daunting task for most.

This is especially true when it comes to changing the duvet cover. The largest of the sheets, it can be a real pain to match up the corners, which can require multiple frustrating attempts.

But a viral duvet hack is making the rounds on social media, which claims to eliminate all the fuss of changing your cover in a few simple steps. As someone who despises changing the bed clothes - especially the dreaded duvet, I had to try it out for myself.

Shared on a comedy TikTok profile named @Just4laughs44, the clip shows American daytime TV host Rachel Ray take on the mundane task of making the bed with an unnamed guest of her self-titled show.

In the video, which has over 300 thousand likes, her co-star demonstrates the quick-fire method in a few simple steps. Firstly, he places a duvet over a cover that is already inside out.

He explained: "Here's what you do, throw the cover on the bed inside out." Following orders I separated my duvet from its wrinkly cover (the only thing I hate more than changing sheets is ironing them.)

The pair then match the top corners and begin rolling the quilt into a log shape: "So you just match the duvet to the duvet cover. Then here's what we're gonna do...you simply roll the duvet."

This is done best on a bed that's not against a wall. As I don't have a bedroom that is the size of a TV studio, I had to move the operation to the floor.

While my duvet is slightly larger than its cover, I was able to match the corners pretty easily. However, it took a couple of rolls before I could get a relatively neat log shape.

Finally, once the duvet and cover are completely rolled, turn the end of the duvet cover inside out, then you simply start unrolling. Stunned by the results, Rachel concluded: "Isn't that amazing?"

This is where I became skeptical. It looked too easy and I figured there was some TV magic at work that eliminated the hard parts.

But to my surprise, it actually worked. All I had to do was roll the duvet back out, then give it a quick shake to make sure everything was evenly spread out.

I couldn't believe it actually worked (Daily Record)

While this duvet trick actually works, it definitely takes some getting used to. As I was curious, I tried it three times, timing each effort as I went.

While my first time was relatively slow at 3 minutes 35 seconds, with a bit of practice I lowered this time significantly. In fact, it only took me 1 minute and 54 seconds by my third go.

So if you're looking for a way to make changing bed clothes more bearable, this is definitely worth a try. While it may take some time, a bit of practice will make this a quick habit you'll never forget.
