I tried the sunrise alarm clock that tracks your sleep from your nightstand

I’ve appreciated (and enjoyed) how it’s held me accountable for sticking to my wind-down routine (and according to the app, I’ve had better sleep when I do) - (Eva Waite-Taylor/The Independent)

“Sleep-maxxing” has very quickly gained traction. The trend is what it sounds like: try to maximize sleep through various means, including maintaining a comfortable bedroom temperature and tracking sleep. According to a study by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, almost half of Americans used a device to track their sleep in 2025, up 35 percent from 2023.

But if you’re like me and don’t want to wear a tracker, the options have been limited. That’s what makes Hatch’s latest launch so interesting. At its heart, it’s a sunrise alarm clock that helps you maximize your routine – you can fall asleep to soundscapes, podcasts, and meditations and wake up to soothing sunrise simulations and the sound of birds (a far cry from what I hear from my bedroom in New York).
