I tried the Nottingham burger in a national final - and it was the best I've ever had

The heat's on as the final of the National Burger Awards grows closer - and we couldn't let the opportunity pass without sampling a contender from right here in Nottingham. The Rump Rub, a signature burger at BOHNS Best Burgers in Hockley, is amongst 16 finalists from across the UK that the lucky set of judges will be devouring. Tough job eh?

I'd seen the promo photo... would the reality live up to it? Absolutely - it's every bit as good-looking as the pimped-up marketing picture. It's one handsome, dirty burger but not so monstrous that you have to resort to a knife and fork to eat it.

My number one burger rule is you should be able to pick it up and eat it by hand. That's not to say it's small. The Rump Rub comes with two smash burgers, gooey cheese, mayo and an unusual twist of homemade jalapeno and raspberry jam. I'm more accustomed to raspberry jam on a scone and ketchup and mustard on my burgers so I'm wondering if this is going to work.
