You know what they say about Marmite, you either love it or you hate it, and the new limited edition truffle flavour has certainly divided shoppers.
The truffle flavour is available now in Sainsbury’s priced at £4 per tub and Marmite lovers have been quick to test the new product. I managed to get my hands on a tub and was intrigued to see whether the strong flavour of truffle would work well with the equally strong Marmite taste.
Described as ‘the poshest Marmite ever’ on the official Marmite website , I’ve got to admit, I was very excited to try this. I’ve become a bit of a truffle addict recently so any dish that includes the rather luxurious ingredient has me sold instantly.

The Marmite
Aesthetically, the jar of Marmite is very striking with its classic yellow lid and eye-catching gold font. Forget the red and yellow label, because this time, Marmite has gone full on extra and I’m so here for it.
The Marmite itself was actually less thick in consistency compared to classic Marmite, which in a way is a plus, because it can be an absolute pain to spread sometimes. In terms of scent, the truffle was quite strong, so I was hoping that the taste would reflect that.
I took a bite into my rather buttery toast lathered in Marmite and was blown away to say the least. I was worried that the truffle would either be too overpowering, or not strong enough, but it was absolutely perfect.
The hint of truffle was a really good amount, and it didn’t take away the classic Marmite flavour we all know and (some of us) love. It was incredibly moreish but I’d say you couldn’t have too much of it without it getting a bit rich and sickly.
The verdict
Marmite, you’ve seriously impressed me with this one. Although the mixture of truffle and Marmite may sound like a bizarre mix, hear me out, because it actually works really well.
When combined with a warm piece of toast and oozing melting butter, you’re in for a real treat. Who’d have thought eating toast and Marmite would feel so classy?
I have a feeling I might have to stock up on this limited edition, because it’s going to be a sad day when it’s taken off the shelves. Although it’s not currently available online, you can find it at your local Sainsbury’s store or browse other Marmite products here.
