When it comes to skincare, many believe that there are far too gadgets and gizmos that overcomplicate routines. “Drink water and stop eating sugar,” my Dad often tells me - but with hormones, stress and external factors, clear skin isn’t as easy as simply staying hydrated.
That said, I don’t like to overcomplicate my skincare routine too much. In my teens I had a religious 10-step skincare regime and frankly, it did absolutely nothing for me, other than become a chore at bedtime.
Instead, I take a much simpler ‘cleanse, tone, moisturise’ approach - but with a little skincare gadget that helps supercharge my skincare and make every day feel like a spa treatment.

The PMD Beauty Clean Pro RQ is an award-winning self-heating beauty device that combines cutting-edge technology with healing Rose Quartz crystal to turn your cleansing routine into a luxury facial.
The US beauty device brand recently launched at Selfridges Manchester Exchange and Selfridges Trafford Centre, so you may have already spotted it in store, and I’ve been trialling it on my skin for the past few months now, and feel like it should be at the top of everyone’s Christmas list.
The device was originally priced at £165, but has been reduced on LookFantastic just in time for Christmas, selling for £107.25 . If you enter the code 5OFF at the checkout, it knocks another 5 per cent off, taking it down to £101.88, which is less than the price of three professional facials. And it’s said to arrive before Christmas, too, making it a great last minute gift if you order before 11.30pm today and choose next day delivery.
The PMD Clean Pro RQ is the kind of device you first look at and think ‘what is THAT for?’ but all soon becomes clear after reading the description and instructions. The device needs charging for a couple of hours before its first use, and then subsequently will need charging intermittently as the weeks go on.
So, what is it? The PMD Clean Pro RQ is a cleansing device that helps to cleanse, firm and tone the skin using vibrations and heat therapy, with a view to achieve clearer, radiant skin.
It’s slotted seamlessly into my already established routine, so there was minimal faffing, too. To use the device, I start off by rinsing my face with warm water and gently rubbing in my usual cleanser, which is my favourite Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. Then I rinse the PMD Clean Pro RQ under water and press the power button to activate the vibration setting, of which there are four different intensities. I find one and two are better for cleansing, while three and four are great for massaging.
I move the brush head in circular motions around my face, cleansing each area, focusing on points of personal concern, like my forehead, where it gets particularly oily, before rinsing my face and the device and patting dry.
Using the PMD device in this way helps break down dirt and oil from within the pores at 7,000 vibrations per minute while operating at a ‘perfect frequency’ to lift, firm, and tone the skin. Even if the results aren’t immediately noticeable - it certainly feels incredibly relaxing and indulgent.
In addition, the device uses an ultra-hygienic silicone and is odour-resistant, antibacterial, hypoallergenic, and waterproof, meaning you can use it in the bath or shower, too, if that’s where you like to carry out your skincare routine.
Most cleansing brushes often come with an added cost of having to replace the brush heads, but the PMD never needs replacing, which is why it’s well worth that initial investment price, too.
Then there’s the thermal element, which uses ActiveWarmth heat therapy and the rose quartz stone to increase skincare absorption, and reduce tension and inflammation.
I apply my toner and moisturiser after cleansing, and then use the flat, smooth quartz side of the PMD Clean Pro RQ on mode three or four to gently massage the products into the skin. I’ll then activate the ActiveWarmth feature, which is said to make absorption of serums and the likes even more effective.
This heated massage helps firm and tones the skin through pulsations, stimulating blood flow and increasing collagen production, which is what keeps skin elasticised.
While I’m not a huge believer in crystal healing, the rose quartz feels very nice on the skin, and the heat technology makes it feel like a spa treatment I’d typically pay £50-100 for, elevating the vibrating cleansing brush to another level of luxury.
I actually couldn’t imagine my skincare routine without it now - so can you imagine how excited I was to receive a miniature version of the device in my LookFantastic advent calendar ? It means I can keep one at home, and one at my partner’s house so I’ll never be without my trusty skincare device.
You can shop the PMD Clean Pro RQ in the LookFantastic sale for £101.88 here with the code 5OFF.
