I tried the café selling one of the cheapest coffees in Bristol city centre

Boulangerie on Queen’s Road is known for its reasonably-priced and tasty baguettes and pasties. But it also sells some of the cheapest coffee in the city.

Costing £2 for a regular latte or cappuccino and £2.40 for a large, the prices are one of the lowest we have seen. Bristol has many coffee shops and most have had to put their prices up due to inflation. With coffees costing up to £4, Boulangerie stands out from the crowd price wise.

We decided that we would head to the café to see if the coffee tastes as good as its more expensive competition. The first thing you really notice is how small the place actually is, but as long as they could serve a good coffee it doesn’t matter.

There were many different options, including a filter coffee, all for similar prices. I decided to go for a classic regular latte and I couldn’t wait to see what the taste was going to be like, especially as their machine was one that freshly grinds the beans.

Once my coffee was made, I headed back outside - they don’t have seating inside - to see what it tasted like. I have to say it was just as good as any coffee I have paid in excess of £4 for. The flavours were good and it was the perfect strength, one of the better coffees I had had in a while.

So this begs the question, do we really need to be paying so much for a small cup of coffee? Maybe going for smaller businesses is the way forward. According to a survey, conducted by the British Coffee Association, approximately 98 million cups of coffee were consumed in the UK alone in 2021.
