Of all the festivities, Pancake Day is one of my favourite. Whether the pairing is lemon and sugar or golden syrup and strawberries - sign me up!
I often make pancakes at home, always opting for the American style fluffy choice as opposed to more traditional crepes. So, I decided to use this Shrove Tuesday as a chance to delve out of my comfort zone and try something different.
We all know Bristol leaves you spoilt for choice when it comes to food and the pancake options are no different. There are lots of eateries serving up American diner-style pancakes with a whole host of toppings - but one quaint cabin is loved by locals even though they're not famous for pulling out the bells and whistles.

Crepe and Coffee Cabin sits on Prince Street overlooking the water and is a hot spot for those walking by, offering a hot treat and accompanying drink in hand. The small stall is rated five out of five stars on TripAdvisor, so I decided it was absolutely where I should celebrate Pancake Day yesterday.
I always enjoy looking at my choice of food spot online before visiting, but Crepe and Coffee Cabin have little online presence, which made me a bit nervous as I usually have my order sorted before arrival. Nevertheless, I kept the faith in the trusty TripAdvisor reviews and set out for some food.
The menu lists a wide range of crepes, more savoury than sweet - with sweet options ranging from lemon and sugar to chocolate sauce and Maltesers, whilst the savoury options include cheddar cheese and onion and cheddar cheese and ham amongst others. I'm a sweet crepe girl through and through so I went simple with the maple syrup choice.
The cabin had drawn a crowd but I didn't wait longer than five minutes, which I was happy about as it was a cold day and the nearby water didn't make it feel any warmer. However, despite the strong winds, it was an incredible view and I was already plotting my visit back on a nice sunny day where I could watch the boats without shivering into my coat.
The crepe came in a cone and it wasn't shy for size. I couldn't wait to take a bite and was met by a taste that can only come from food that's made fresh and with love. It's easy to dress a pancake up with extravagant toppings that are sweet enough to make cardboard edible, but it was blatant the recipe here was perfect and didn't need anything extra to make it taste incredible.
I usually add strawberries along with maple syrup to my pancakes and as much as this would have been appreciated in this case, it's easy to understand the complications that come with serving up fresh fruit daily - especially from a small cabin.
The food is exactly what it says on the tin - well, cabin - and they do it welI. In a world of 'Instagrammable' spreads that often look better than they taste it's nice to enjoy food that is simply made well and incredibly tasty. Especially when the view is as good as the one that the Crepe and Coffee Cabin offers.
