When a product starts flying off the shelves and appearing on eBay for double the price you get a sense there might be some truth to the hype.
Aldi's Lacura Vitabase Moisturising Primer (£5.99) is made with vitamin C, vitamin B, vitamin E, shea butter, sodium hyaluronate and geranium oil and many say it is a dupe for Bobbi Brown’s version (£48.50) contains a blend of Vitamins B, C, and E, shea butter and hyaluronic acid. So when the budget retailer announced its Specialbuys last week, I was delighted to see the primer back on the shelves.
I had already spotted it on eBay for £11.99 and some selling for nearly £16, but luckily, I managed to get my hands on one at my local Aldi. It has rave reviews on the Aldi website with 96% of reviewers saying they would recommend it to a friend.

Considering I paid £5.99, I wasn't expecting the heavy glass jar, it makes it feel like a high end product in the minimalistic cream coloured box. Opening there is a lovely fragrance to the cream, which I feel could be a point of contention for some and that was evidenced in the online reviews with some saying it was too overpowering.
I, however, loved it. The cream itself is a light lemon colour and feels thick and rich. You only need a small amount and it easily glides over your skin, melting into with the warmth of my fingertips.
It says it is the perfect base for your make up so I let it absorb in for a few minutes before applying my foundation and blush (I'm not a contour girl). I found my make up went on as it would usually but it did feel hydrated and dewy for longer, even on one of the hottest days of the year so far.
I really tested out my foundation's staying power as I wore it all day in the baking sun and out to dinner later. I did find that the foundation wore off, but I would have expected that after eight hours and I think my skin still felt smooth and moisturised hours later thanks to the primer.
For the price and feel I would definitely recommend this product alongside their other products such as the brightening concealer in shade two (£3.99) - a little goes a long way but it does what it says on the label for less than many other top brands. Then there is also the Lacura collagen lip oil which is my new favourite product. The 8ml is £3.49 and worth every penny, it smells beautiful and feels lovely on, I don't leave the house without it now.
I was on the fence about their CC Serum in shade 'Tulip' for £3.99 when I decided to apply it to my decolletage and it really sparkled in the sunlight, which made me feel heavenly (or yes, like Edward Cullen but in a none cringe way). Overall, having never tried their Lacura range before, I was very impressed with Aldi's products and I can see why people are demanding that they are made permanent and not just Specialbuys.
