I tried Rhode's new pocket bronzer – my makeup routine's not been the same since

The summer collection includes new peptide lip treatments, a brush and more - (Daisy Lester)

In a world of celebrity beauty brands, Hailey Bieber’s Rhode manages to stand out. Not only are the products excellently formulated, but every launch goes viral – the latest of which is her long-awaited pocket bronzer.

The companion to Rhode’s cult pocket bronzer, Bieber has been teasing the product for months. But that’s not all: there’s also a new lip peptide, shaper and pocket brush in the roster, alongside a highlighter milk. Building on her core range – which began with the peptide glazing fluid, barrier restore cream and peptide lip treatments – the new line is a streamlined summer makeup capsule.

Since launching in 2022, Rhode products have becomes somewhat of a status symbol: the faintly ridiculous but surprisingly practical lip cases are now ubiquitous, while the Justin Bieber x Rhode spot stickers sold out in hours ahead of his Coachella set. The new summer collection launches on 9 June, with a snap-on lip case joining the accessories range, too.

But it’s the all-new pocket bronzer that’s got makeup obsessives excited. Available in eight shades, the cream bronzer caters for fair to deep brown skin tones, with the same compact, twist-up packaging as the pocket blush. The new pocket brush is designed to be just as portable, with flat bronzer and angular blush dual ends.

I favour cream bronzers over powder, owing to how they mimic a sun-kissed sheen rather than provide a matte, dull finish. Giving an extra hydration boost and seamlessly blending into your complexion, I find cream formulas far more forgiving – but how does Rhode’s compare?

I tested the new Rhode bronzer in the shade pebble to find out if it’s set to replace my go-to bronzer this summer. Applying with the new pocket brush and trying the highlighter milk as a base, I completed the makeup look using the new shades of the lip shaper and peptide treatment – here’s my verdict.

Rhode pocket bronzer

★★★★★

Rhode’s new pocket bronze is packaged in the same stylish mini tube as the blush. The twist up design makes application effortless: simply dab or draw on your face before blending with a brush. The formula glides on smoothly, without clinging to dry patches, and is just as easily buffed. The consistency is impressively lightweight and non-tacky, and it took less than a minute to apply on both cheeks and across my forehead. The coverage is perfect, adding such the right amount of natural-bronze to your face while blurring imperfections.

The stick design makes it easy to contour and sculpt your face, but it’s just as good for tapping on areas naturally more exposed to the sun (like your nose and forehead) for a believable summer tan. The bronzer lasts well during the day, too – and a little goes a long way, so you can invest now and be glowy all-summer-long.

Rhode highlight milk

★★★☆☆

This hybrid formula works as both a highlighter and a hydrating primer, using the same formulation as Rhode’s glazing milk. I tried the pearly pink shade, which delivered on its glowy, luminous promise. While the brand recommend tapping it across your face and décolletage – which gives an all-over shimmer – I preferred to tap it into the high points of my face.

Unlike many highlighters than can cause dryness, Rhode’s milk is nourishing and light on skin. Saying that, I don’t think it’s an essential element to any summer makeup routine – you’re best spending your £28 elsewhere.

Rhode peptide lip tint

★★★★★

There’s a reason why Rhode’s peptide lip treatments are so popular. Fuss-free to apply thanks to the angular tip, the formula hydrates and nourishes lips – even the most chapped kind – while imparting a healthy, flattering tint. The products aren’t sticky and deliver a high-shine finish. I’ve been using them for years and can’t fault them.

Now, Rhode has expanded the range with three new delicious summer flavours. Colada smells like a tropical cocktail with a deep peach finish; macadamia has vanilla-undertones and a caramel sheen; and honey mango gives lips a shimmery, bronzed tint.

Rhode lip shape

★★★★☆

Rhode’s lip shaper is formulated with the brand’s star ingredient, peptides. The lip liner boasts a chunkier tip than most on the market, which helps create volume and definition on lips. The creamy and soft consistency is easily built up with a seamless finish.

The new shade, push, is a soft neutral beige that is a great tool for contouring your pout. Outline your lips with the shaper, before filling them in with a slightly lighter nude lip stick. As with the core range, the longevity isn’t great (prepare to top it up throughout the day), but the coverage is natural and flattering.
