Primark has released a pair of trainers that are said to be a ‘dupe’ of the ever so popular New Balance 725’s, so I decided to visit Liverpool’s Primark store and make my own mind up on them.
I’m sure we can all agree that trainers are the ultimate comfort shoe, whether it's to nip to the shop, to go for a walk or to wear on a city break, you can’t beat them. Primark, which is hugely popular in Liverpool, has become known for its designer dupes in recent years, often selling alternative versions to high-end products for much less.
The trainers have gone viral since getting posted to Primark’s official Instagram account after being modelled by @jesselleking. The video has since received nearly a million views and thousands of likes.

Primark's full product description of the trainers read: “The sartorial set’s love of oversized kicks doesn’t seem to be dying down - and we’re more than ok with that, to be honest. Taking cues from retro styles, these low-top trainers are pieced together from panels of smooth faux-leather and breathable mesh to form a silhouette that wouldn’t look so out of place in the gym. We’ll be passing on the leggings and wearing ours under cropped denim, though."
The trainers:
After heading to the shoe section in Primark, I found the trainers I was looking for and luckily they had my size in stock. They had the trainers in two different colours of white/grey and white/ blue. I tried on the white/grey as I preferred those.
The trainers feature a chunky sole which I loved as nothing beats a chunky trainer at the moment. Even Primark agrees as on its website it has jokingly labelled the trainers: “We like our trainers like we like our chocolate bars. Chunky.”
After careful observation, the Primark trainers and the New Balance 725’s are very similar in design, with almost identical soles and markings around the front. The shoes also feature similar colour schemes.
The verdict:
I was shocked at just how comfy the Primark trainers were. They felt almost like clouds on my feet as they were that lightweight.
I had a satin maxi skirt on at the time of trying the trainers on in Primark and I loved the two items together. These trainers can definitely be dressed up or even dressed down with gym wear meaning you would definitely get your wear out of them.
Overall, I was impressed with the Primark trainers and if I didn’t already own a million pairs of trainers, I would’ve purchased them. The Primark Chunky Mesh Low Top Trainers dupes are priced at £16 whereas the New Balance trainers would set you back £70. This means you would save £54 if you opted for the Primark dupes.
