McDonald’s popular Monopoly prize giveaway promotion is BACK and for many, it’s the ideal opportunity to bag a free drink or a bonus McFlurry with your order. That said, there are some pretty big prizes up for grabs, from electric cars to £100k in cash, if you can rack up enough of the right stickers.
Launching in stores on Wednesday, September 7, this year’s promotion will run until October 18, giving customers almost six whole weeks to peel the stickers from their fries and mozzarella dippers.
In previous years, I’ve often tried to maximise the number of stickers I can get by going large to earn three stickers per menu item. However, one major change to the game this year sees the number of stickers as two per item across the board, whether they’re medium or large.

As a result, you can actually save a bit of cash, because buying, for example, a three piece chicken select meal will earn you the exact same number of stickers as a five-piece meal, so there’s no need to upgrade for more chances to win.
I did, however, head in to a store to see how much I could win in one meal, particularly with the new-for-2022 double peel option, where there are more chances to win on the MyMcdonald’s App, too.
What is the Monopoly game at McDonald’s?
McDonald’s much-loved promotion was launched back in 2005 and works in a similar way to the classic Monopoly board game. Customers have the chance to win prizes by collecting game pieces from menu items such as fries, wraps, drinks and McFlurry’s.
By peeling off the game pieces from these selected items, customers can instantly win free food items and bigger prizes or collect property pieces of the same colour for a bigger prize via the McDonald’s app and online.
How does it work?
-
Peel on pack: Reveal property or instant prize win
-
Collect in McDonald’s app: Scan property code to complete set and win
-
Extra Peel in McDonald’s app: Each property banked in your Monopoly Wallet gives you another chance to win!
Both existing and new customers who are signed up to My McDonald’s Rewards will also receive a free code to play, as well as be able to earn points on their order
What did I win?
At my local McDonald’s, I ordered a three-piece Chicken Select meal with a Coke and a brand new Twix McFlurry. This meal, which cost around £7, would give me eight stickers to peel, and up to eight digital peels in the app, too.
I peeled back the tricky sticker from my drink first, after struggling to pick up the corner with my nail. After a satisfyingly smooth peel, I flipped it over to reveal two property cards: a green Regent Street and pink Pall Mall. Onto the fries, I ‘won’ a brown Whitechapel Road, meaning I’d only need to find the elusive Old Kent Road to be in with the chance of a prize, but alas, I wasn’t lucky enough to get my hands on it on this occasion.
Attached to Whitechapel Road was another Pall Mall - my first duplicate, which was quickly followed by a second Whitechapel Road when I peeled back the sticker from my Chicken Selects.
Also on the selects sticker was Marylebone Station, which, if I collect all four stations could see me win a £250 events voucher.
Finally, I peeled the paper from my Twix McFlurry - a delightful new menu addition, I might add - and discovered a pink Whitehall, meaning I only needed one more pink property to win an experience day. The best prize though, was the instant win Coca-Cola zero sugar or a milkshake. I’ll definitely be treating myself to a strawberry shake in the coming weeks - that’s if the machine isn’t broken.
Of course, then there’s the double peel chance to win on the app. You can either scan the code or enter it manually, and it will automatically store the property in the app, and offer a bonus prize.
Most of my digital prizes were entries into a draw to win some of the available prizes, from a Nintendo Switch to an AO.com voucher - other wins were extra properties, which boosted my board game, helping me get a little bit closer to completing the game.
I did also win a one month Paramount+ subscription and a three month Readly subscription, too.
What to avoid in McDonald’s Monopoly
There are some menu items which don’t have any gameplay stickers on them, including the chains globally popular Big Mac, and their much loved Chicken McNuggets. If you want to get the most stickers from your meal, you’ll want to pick menu items that do come with stickers, to maximise your chances of winning.
What items do come with Monopoly stickers?
All of the below items come with two stickers. Staff at the branch I visited confirmed that they’ve not seen any products with three stickers this year.

Are there any other ways to maximise McDonald’s Monopoly chances?
There is one genius hack to get two FREE stickers in McDonald’s Monopoly - but you have to be a student. Those with a student card can get a free McFlurry, Mayo Chicken or Cheeseburger when they buy any extra-value or wrap meal.
While Mayo Chickens and Cheeseburgers don’t come with stickers, the McFlurry’s do, so it’s well worth adding to your order for an extra chance to win.
