A bonafied beauty behemoth thanks to her brand Rhode, Hailey Bieber is now turning her attention from our make-up bags to our wardrobes. First came a collaboration with Mango – now she’s partnered with the iconic American apparel brand Gap for a capsule denim collection.
The cornerstone of any wardrobe, Hailey relies on Gap denim just as much as we mere mortals do. Her off-duty wardrobe sits on countless Pinterest boards – and a pair of low-rise Gap jeans crops up constantly.
Whether paired with leather jackets and Canadian tuxedo looks, or oversized blazers, bandeau tops and cropped white tees, her penchant for the 1990s-style relaxed jeans has inspired the new Gap capsule, which adds detailing inspired by 1996 – her birth year, of course.
A match made in denim heaven, Gap has long been synonymous with good quality jeans – the American brand first made a name for itself in the 1960’s selling Levi’s styles.
The limited-edition drop – which launches today – features just two styles: the extra baggy jeans, inspired by Hailey’s own beloved pair of men’s Gap loose jeans, and the low-rise loose jeans. So long barrel, skinny and straight leg – it appears baggy is now best. Both styles are available in three different washes and cost £70.
Not only is Gap trusted for wardrobe staples, but its last A-lister collaboration – with Victoria Beckham, no less – was acclaimed. Despite being in the midst of the UK’s never-ending heatwave, I secured both pairs of jeans ahead of their launch to try them on for size, fit and style. Here are my thoughts on Gap x Hailey Bieber.
Gap x Hailey Bieber extra baggy jeans
These Gap extra baggy jeans have the perfect amount of structure and weight. The cut is simple, with a low-rise waistline – which admittedly won’t be to everyone's taste – and a straight, baggy leg. The inflated silhouette is best paired with form-fitting tops – or crop tops à la Hailey – smart blazers to contrast the relaxed cut, or a cropped jacket come autumn.
In the campaign pictures, the jeans are pooling cool-girl style around Hailey’s ankles. Alas, on me, a 6ft woman, the jeans fall at an unflattering cropped length. Any woman over 5ft9 will likely find similar.

Gap x Hailey Bieber low-rise loose jeans
I tried the new darker wash in the low-rise loose jeans, which gave them an overall smarter, more elevated feel. Similarly low-rise but less baggy, the jeans are a better fit for those who lean toward straight-cut or barrel-leg jeans. The fabric feels durable and structured, with a single button fastening, zip and belt loops.
Front and back pockets feature on both pairs of jeans, but the stitching is more noticeable detailing on the darker wash. Like the baggy jeans above, extra details include 1996 touches on the hardware and a back patch that references her birth year. Hailey’s signature is also found inside the pocket lining.
Again, the length is too cropped on me – but it’s easier to get away with thanks to the slightly less baggy cut. It’s a shame both styles don’t come in long lengths, like Gap’s core line.
