'I tried McDonald’s new items - and the halloumi fries are best thing they’ve ever done'

It's a big day at McDonald's today as they swap over their summer Mediterranean menus, taking off the flavours from Italy and adding in Spain and Cyprus.

Two new burgers have arrived - The Spanish Stack and The Chicken Fiesta - as well as halloumi fries for the first time ever and a Spanish Fruit Punch drink

The fast-food chain has also announced a price increase for the first time in 14 years due to "incredibly challenging times".

Restaurants across the UK will add between 10p and 20p to a number of items, with the cost of a cheeseburger rising from 99p to £1.19 from today (Wednesday, July 27).

We've given the new menu items a go and think one of them might be the best thing McDonald's has ever done.

Both of the new burgers are served in paprika buns, with the Spanish Stack (£5.39 or £6.89 for a medium meal) featuring two beef patties, chilli cheddar, red onion, lettuce and a spicy tomato bravas style sauce.

The Chicken Fiesta (£5.39 or £6.89 for a medium meal) is comprised of a vibrant orange chilli and paprika bun, filled with crispy chicken, chorizo, chilli cheddar, spicy tomato sauce, red onion and lettuce

These were both perfectly fine burgers, a step up from your average cheeseburger and packing more flavour than a Big Mac, but for me, they didn't quite live up to their two predecessors - the lasagne-inspired Italian Stack and Crispy Chicken Italiano with pesto.

The overpowering taste for both was just paprika, so if you're a fan of that definitely give these a go.

If not, then no fear, as the real star of the show here are the halloumi fries.

The halloumi fries come in a portion of four (£2.49) or in a sharebox (£6.49) and are coated in a light batter and served with a pot of tomato dip.

If you love mozzarella dippers or any of the cheesy offerings from McDonald's then these are a must-try. No doubt about it, my new favourite McDonald's item.

The batter isn't too heavy, there's a generous amount of halloumi and the sauce compliments them nicely - though I could definitely polish off the portion without stopping to dip them once.

If you want to give them. ago for yourself, you'll have to be quick as the new Spanish and Cypriot items are only available for a limited time.

The new menu items launch today, Wednesday, July 27 and will be available until September 6.
