High-protein foods have become all the rage recently, with more and more people taking supplements to help with their gym gains. Lidl is the latest of a long list of supermarkets to bring in high-protein products to their shelves.
But in recent weeks, Lidl’s protein puddings have been trending online and not necessarily for the best reason. The product has had a price lift which hasn’t gone down well. One customer took to Twitter saying: “How has protein pudding in Lidl gone up from 79p to £1.18.”
With the cost of living and inflation, it's no surprise that prices have gone up, but for a small pot of what is basically chocolate mousse, the amount seems almost excessive. I decided that I would give the product a try to see if I liked it for starters but also see if it warrants the nearly £1.20 price tag.

On entering the shop, I had a choice to make - do I go for the chocolate-flavoured pudding or the vanilla one? Deciding that I would try the chocolate, I headed to the till to pay before heading home to try the product.

On opening the pot, it smells exactly the same as your normal, non-protein specific chocolate mousse but looks massively different. The consistency of the pudding is smooth and shiny, without the bubbles you normally get in a chocolate pudding. The pot was filled rather well, almost to the brim.
The taste was quite chocolatey but the one let down for me, and it’s probably to do with the pudding being a healthy protein supplement, the taste wasn’t very sweet. While it didn’t taste bad at all, I found I was unable to finish the entire pot whether that was because of the lack of sweetness or the amount, I left the last few mouthfuls.
I would definitely recommend this product for those who want a cheaper protein supplement pudding, but I don’t feel it’s worth almost £1.20. It's pretty much the same as any other yogurt you can get for 80p, the only difference being the high-protein value.
