I tried five products from the Superdrug Vitamin E skincare range and they were all under £5

I’m always on the lookout for affordable skincare options, and when I was at university, Superdrug was one of my go-to places to search out the best brands at the lowest prices. Their Vitamin E skincare range has long been a staple on the health and beauty retailer’s shelves, with prices rarely exceeding £5 for their face and body products.

Even a huge tub of their Vitamin E lavender body butter was less than a fiver, and has become a firm favourite for when sleep struggles hit.

The budget beauty range is all infused with Vitamin E, which is an antioxidant that is said to benefit the skin. Superdrug said: “You can include this vitamin into your lifestyle through tablets and supplements and through food sources. However, it has also been found to improve overall skin health when applied externally, helping to reduce premature ageing signs like fine lines and wrinkles as well as offering long lasting hydration for skin and protecting against UV damage.

“Here at Superdrug, we believe in the properties of vitamin E for skin so much, we made a skincare line dedicated to its ability to enhance skin texture and health.”

I tried five products from the range, including their hot cloth cleanser that’s similar to Liz Earle, and a body scrub that leaves skin feeling silky smooth.

I started off by removing all of my makeup with the Superdrug Vitamin E hot cloth cleanser, which is £4.99 for 200ml compared to £3.99 for Aldi’s own brand, and £28 for the high-end Liz Earle version. The Superdrug cleanser comes with its own muslin cloth and is a generous sized product for the price.

The formula is very creamy and feels quite luxurious too. As well as using it as a makeup cleanser, I’ve actually been using it in the shower and leaving it on my face for five to ten minutes as a mask, which feels beautifully indulgent on a Friday night after a long week.

Another great product to use in the shower is Vitamin E Sugar Oil Body Scrub , which is great for exfoliating your skin before shaving.

It’s quite a gritty scrub using sugar, sea salt and walnut shells so less is more to avoid causing damage to the skin, I find. The addition of sweet almond and grapeseed oils feels hydrating and nourishes the skin as you scrub.

One shopper described it as ‘worth every penny’, in one of 27 five star reviews, while another said it was ‘the best scrub I’ve ever used’.

For my undereyes I used the Vitamin E Nourishing Eye Cream to try and depuff the sleepy bags under my eyes, and found the nozzle applicator nice and precise to use. The product itself was light and non-greasy, and absorbed into the skin of my delicate eye area quickly.

The dermatologically tested product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and while I didn’t see any magic instant results, it felt very soothing on the skin. The best part? It’s only £3.99.

Superdrug added: “All of our Vitamin E skincare products are enriched with naturally sourced vitamin e, rich in antioxidants which helps to shield skin from environmental damage and premature skin ageing by combating the harmful effects of free radicals.”

Next I went for the Superdrug Vitamin E Night Cream which is £4.99, but one thing I love about Superdrug is that they almost always have an offer on, and the Vitamin E range is on buy one get one half price.

The moisturising night cream promises ‘24 Hour Moisturisation’ with antioxidants that protect the skin from environmental damage. I found the cream to be thick, which I prefer in a moisturiser. It still spread and absorbed well without looking like I’d slapped on too much sun cream on a hot day.

Last but not least was the £3.99 Vitamin E Hydrating Mist, which features aloe vera to offer an instant soothing effect.

The toner can be used after cleansing, or throughout the day for a boost of hydration. With the warmer weather, I imagine I’ll be taking this out everywhere with me to help feel refreshed and unfrazzled.

Overall, I’d give the Superdrug Vitamin E range a four out of five stars. It’s affordable, performs well and some of the products feel quite luxurious - they’re just sometimes a struggle to get hold of because they’re so popular.
