I tried Aldi's £1 'gold dust' protein snack shoppers are bulk buying - review

Described as the £1 snack that is 'like gold dust' the Aldi protein puddings have been tough to find, but I thankfully managed to get my hands on some.

Many shoppers have been desperate to snap up the sweet protein puddings like it's some kind of Wonka Bar, and it's easy to see why. Recently, I've really been trying to watch what I eat, and after seeing all the hype around these £1 puddings I knew I had to find some.

The Brooklea pudding comes in three flavours - chocolate, salted caramel and vanilla, and naturally, I've noticed a lot of hype around the chocolate flavour. Each pudding contains 20g of protein in a 200g pot, and many shoppers have been left desperate to find one of these magical pots at their local store.

I recently took a trip to my local Aldi and didn't expect to find any, but ended up being very lucky. On the shelf was a fair amount of vanilla flavours, and one rather battered looking chocolate flavour.

Clearly someone had dropped the chocolate flavour, but I was determined to try it and didn't let that put me off - dedication or what? Here's what I thought.

The Brooklea Protein Pudding

First impressions, the protein pudding looked reasonably basic in its packaging, just like any usual yoghurt, so it was difficult to judge the hype just from that aspect. I opened the lid and was utterly amazed at how thick the pudding was.

Think yoghurt x10, because this was much thicker than a yoghurt and had a very deep brown chocolatey colour. My mouth was watering at the scent and I took a big spoonful.

Once I'd got over the initial thickness, I was really impressed with the chocolate flavour. It was really rich and didn't taste too weak in comparison to some yoghurts.

If I had to compare the protein puddings to anything, I'd say they taste quite similar Muller Light 'Chocolate Fix' pots, but a lot thicker of course. The best part about the protein pudding was the fact that it was really quite filling compared to other protein yoghurts I've had in the past, and a lot more flavoursome.

The vanilla flavour was really pleasant and resembled custard in consistency, but it was the chocolate flavour that I, like many other shoppers prefer. The protein pudding offers a great alternative for those who fancy something sweet packed with protein that's a little different to a chocolate bar!

The Verdict

I totally and utterly understand the hype surrounding these protein puddings. In fact, I'm a little conscious that when I next venture into Aldi they won't be there, which is why I'm going to savour my second vanilla protein pudding for as long as possible.

I'm so glad something like this exists, because I can eat a chocolate treat without feeling too guilty about it - what a triumph! The puddings also come in a salted caramel flavour which I'm also desperate to try, I'm hoping I can get my hands on it ASAP. Purchase the chocolate protein pudding from Aldi here.
