I tried a Manchester United hair dryer - and it could dry my hair in half time

Drying my long hair is a serious chore and one I detest more than washing dishes or changing the bedsheets. And parents of children with long or thick hair will sympathise with me too, because it’s not an easy task and takes some real arm strength at times.

Part of my problem might have been to do with the fact my hair dryer was over a decade old, and therefore the motor wasn’t quite what it used to be, but equally, my hair just seems to soak up water like a sponge and can take more than an hour to properly dry.

Recently I switched over to a new Remington hair dryer - the Thermacare Pro 2400 - which comes in a black and red colourway with the Manchester United logo on the side. My partner, a Liverpool fan, was less than impressed, but I certainly was as it cut my drying time by more than half.

Part of a whole range of official Manchester United appliances by Remington , the hair dryer retails on the site at £51.99, but it is available at other retailers for slightly cheaper.

The device promises 2400W performance, even though the dryer is only 2200W. It offers the same 90km/h drying speed, using high speed and low heat to protect the hair from any heat or styling damage. It’s safe to say it sounded like a dream come true.

Remington said: “This dryer is engineered for a professional performance with low noise drying and 90 per cent more ions compared to a standard Remington dryer for frizz free, shiny results. The 2200W motor is also built to last – with a motor that lasts twice as long as a standard Remington DC Dryer.

“You won’t be worrying about this hair dryer letting you down when you need it most. You can focus on creating the look you want, and let the hairdryer do the hard work!”

I started off by washing my hair as I usually would - a double shampoo, conditioner and any serums I feel it needs. One this occasion, I used the Me+ universal hair oil from Superdrug, which I reviewed previously.

I like to wrap my hair with a towel or microfibre wrap for 10 to 15 minutes after hopping out of the bath which soaks up some of the excess water in my hair ahead of drying.

The Remington Thermacare hair dryer has got a weight to it, but isn’t so heavy that it’s difficult to use. It has two sliding controls on the neck of the dryer, two for speed and three heat settings. As well as a cool shot to help set style, it also has a turbo boost for powerful and fast drying.

After brushing through my dripping hair, I began to blast dry my hair with the Man U hair dryer and was stunned that, by the time I went to brush through it again after about seven minutes, it was already nearly dry.

Within 15 minutes, my hair was dry and ready to style, meaning instead of it taking me an hour to dry my hair, I could have done it in the half time of a football match.

The hair dryer comes with a diffuser and two different concentrator nozzles for styling, as well as a black silky bag to keep them all in, which is embossed with the Manchester United crest.

The dryer’s ceramic grille is removable, making it easy to clean, and the appliance comes with a five year guarantee as standard.

I was really pleased with its performance and knowing I could cut my hair drying time by around 45 minutes meant I could wash my hair in the mornings before work, rather than the night before. It’s perfect for those of us who simply don’t have enough hours in the day, from workers to parents rushing out on the school run.

The Remington hair dryer is available for £51.99 via their website, or £49.99 at Currys.
