Pizza ovens are set to be this summer’s must-have garden gadget for serving up a slice of the good stuff to guests now that gatherings are well and truly back. And ahead of the bank holiday weekend and hopeful heatwave, I’ve been trying out a Blaze Box pizza oven to see how much I can up my barbecue game in 2022.
Our new Landmann gas barbecue has seen us pretty much ditch the kitchen oven ever since we set it up - that is when the Great British weather is playing nicely - and so we’ve been looking at all the different things we can cook on it, and pizza is by far one of the easiest and tastiest too.
The Blaze Box pizza oven usually retails at £69.99 on the Robert Dyas site, but is currently on offer for £42.99 on Wowcher , with ‘prices forecast to rise after May 21’. So shoppers hoping to bag a bargain will have to move fast.

The pizza oven comes either on its own or with a paddle for an extra £10 at £52.99, down from £79.99 , but I do recommend getting the paddle as it makes it so much easier to transport your pizzas from barbecue to plate.
Wowcher said: “Get that authentic, stonebaked-style pizza without taking a plane to Italy with this amazing deal! With this deal you get a simple pizza oven that can be placed onto a barbecue and grill, with a 10mm pizza stone base for your dough.”
The garden gadget features a metal casing and a ceramic stone which can be placed on top of your barbecue to create a delicious, perfectly crisp pizza in 10 minutes. After making our own pizzas in the kitchen, we waited for the heat to ramp up on the BBQ to 180 degrees, checking the pizza oven’s thermometer for accuracy.
Once up to temp, I opened the pizza oven’s magnetic door and slid my pizza onto the stone. The design also features a glass viewing window, allowing you to check the progress of your pizza without releasing any heat, so you’ll never end up burning a slice - unless you forget it’s in there, of course.
The Landmann is the perfect size for this pizza oven, and the hood of the BBQ comfortably close to retain heat. In fact, there was still space either side of the pizza oven to cook any other sausages or burgers for a bigger gathering.
My pizza featured a healthy helping of mozzarella, chorizo, salami and tomatoes, and tasted better than any supermarket or takeaway pizza I’ve ever had, with a slightly smoked taste from the barbecue, crisp base, and juicy toppings that were full of flavour.
After our food, the pizza oven casing just needed a quick wipe down, and is lightweight enough to just pick up and wipe over with a cloth. The stone can be left on the barbecue and will eventually blacken, but the instructions say to clean any food off it, which is exactly what I did.

For just £42.99, it’s one of the best quality affordable barbecue top pizza ovens I’ve seen on the market.
Shoppers can also pick up a similar pizza oven in Aldi, costing £39.99 for their BBQ top pizza oven. The barbeque pizza oven is made of ceramic stone and can be used on gas and charcoal barbeques to cook pizzas with whatever toppings you desire.
Others are slightly more expensive at £54.99 for the Vonhaus BBQ top pizza oven with another on Amazon by La Hacienda for £67.99 - but you can buy the bargain pizza oven from Wowcher here.
