I was fully committed to being a matte lipstick girl in my teens, but now - it’s all about gloss. The Fenty Gloss Bomb lippy has to be one of the most popular products on the market, created by Rhianna and adored by Love Island stars who used it regularly on the show.
The only problem is that it comes in at £18 a tube, and with the current economic climate and my sad-looking bank balance, I just can’t justify it.
However, Boots shoppers have let on to a more affordable dupe , which could save beauty buffs half the price on the high-end makeup buy.

Of course, I had to go and seek it out, and even put the two together in store and honestly - put them in identical packaging and I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
The dupe comes from Maybelline , and is the Lifter Gloss Plumping Hydrating Lip Gloss Hyaluronic Acid - mouthful, I know - in the shade Moon. It’s an extremely similar shade to Fenty’s Fu$$y, but costs just £8.99, instead of £18.
Maybelline says the gloss is ‘inspired by golden hour’ offering bronzed and sun-kissed pigments, making it perfect for summer. The gloss has received a whopping 1,151 five star reviews on the Boots website, with many claiming it’s ‘better than Fenty’.
Sarahh5b1e has bought the lippy three times and wrote: “HOLY COW. My favourite lip product ever. I wasn’t expecting much but omg this is definitely a Fenty dupe and better. I have nothing bad to say, super easy to apply, not sticky but not slippery. Very hydrating on the lips and I’ll forever keep buying this gloss. The Bronze shade suits any skin tone and looks amazing on anyone.”
Gracieuxgaby added: “Absolutely love this lip gloss! The colour is beautiful. It reminds me of the Fenty gloss bomb, however I like this formula much more as it doesn’t leave a sticky clumpy gloss. Absolutely would recommend.”
“Love, love, love this product,” said GodivaGirl. “This makes a great dupe for the Fenty gloss bomb, my previous favorite lip gloss. I actually like this product even better than the Fenty because it's less sticky and has a lovely vanilla flavour and scent! Subtle shimmer, perfect for anything from work to going out, and plumps lips as advertised! I bought Moon, a pretty shimmery peach shade. 1000% recommend.”
I tried the lipgloss for myself and tried it out when I went Steal Their Style spotting in Manchester. The deep peach shade is gorgeous and definitely universally wearable for all - it’s such a lovely colour and the coverage is great.
The formula is non-sticky, so anyone with hair-sticking related trauma from the 90s can finally get over their gloss-wearing fear. And it survived the whole day despite eating and drinking, without the need to reapply after every mouthful.
You can buy the Maybelline lipgloss and try it for yourself on the Boots website.
