Black jeans and pet hair is like a fridge and a magnet. It’s a pain anyone who owns - or knows someone who owns - a dog or cat will endure every single day.
That pesky fur gets everywhere - the sofa, the carpets, your clothes. It often feels like a never ending task trying to de-fluff yourself on the way out to work or to meet friends.
But Amazon shoppers have recently been raving about a lint roller that is perfect for pet owners, and I simply had to try it out for myself.

Beldray’s Pet Plus+ Handheld Gel Lint Roller has racked up over 900 five star reviews who say it gets ‘hair off everything’.
So to put it through its paces, I enlisted the help of my brother’s 45kg American bulldog Winston. While I do have two Staffy-crosses myself, they (thankfully) don’t moult too much. But as a rescue, Winston grew a thick coat to deal with the cold of living outdoors, and now a much loved indoor dog, he’s notoriously sheddy.
Winston’s white fur sticks to black jeans like glue, so much so that in the past I’ve actually avoided wearing my favourite pair when I’ve popped round for a cuppa. On this occasion, though, I pulled on my black Levi’s and headed into the house armed with my Beldray.
A must-have gadget for pet owners, it’s said to effortlessly remove pet hair from clothes and upholstery. Costing £6.99 for one or £9.99 for two, I also thought it was pretty affordable, especially since it’s reusable. And if you get two you can keep one in the house and one in the car, too.
A disposable lint roller will set you back anywhere between £1 and £5 depending on where you shop. A quick Google search and I found one for £4 at John Lewis, while Amazon have some on offer for £2.25 - but even they’ve been reduced from £4.50.
This Beldray roller is a much more eco-friendly option as the gel roller is washable and reusable, making it a fantastic alternative to single use paper sheets.
At my brother’s house, I greeted Winston in my usual way of getting on the floor and giving him a good scritch. He loves a cuddle and it’s impossible to say no to one (have you ever tried getting a dog the size of a small horse off your lap?), but it does result in a lot of fur-fallout.
Within 10 minutes, my jeans were covered in white fur - and a bit of slobber, too - but it was ready to see if the Beldray roller was as good as everyone claimed it to be.
I took off the film and set it aside, as you have to save that to rewrap the roller to prolong its lifespan. Then I set about de-fluffing my jeans.
The roller took all of the effort out of the pet hair removal, the gel material picking up each and every hair from my black denim garments. It was comfortable to hold with an ergonomic design and slightly curved handle, making it much easier to manoeuvre than some of your bog-standard ones.
Simple and straightforward to use, the white fur had been banished from my outfit in seconds, without leaving any sticky residue behind either. Looking at the roller, you could see all the dust and hair that had been collected, and it was pretty substantial, suggesting it had really got every last little spec.
The gel roller is washable, too, and can be cleaned by running it under warm water. This sees the roller temporarily lose its sticky, so the fur and dust is washed down the drain. You can then set it aside to dry out, where the stickiness will return.
A multi-use product, this roller is ideal for use on clothes, garments and various upholstered surfaces such as furniture or curtains, so of course, we went for the sofa next, using the built-in squeegee to collect the hairs from the crevices of the furniture before rolling it up, rinsing and repeating on practically every household surface.
It’s so impressive, my brother’s partner ordered one immediately while I was still stood in the house, and I went straight to Amazon to get a pack of two so I could give one to my parents, and keep one in my car.
Other Amazon shoppers have been left just as impressed as me, too, with one writing: “Bought this as I've used all different things in the past for dog hairs but this is definitely 100% the best one I've found.”
Another added: “Great if you have dogs! Amazing as getting hair off everything. We use in on the couch, the stairs and our clothes. Once it's full of hair just rinse it and its ready to use again”
After years of wasting money on sticky paper rollers, this Beldray gel roller is a godsend for pet owners who are sick of leaving the house in a furry fashion. You can shop the Beldray roller here on Amazon.
