The Neighbourhood Market is back in Stockbridge and promises to be “better than ever”.
This selection of stalls and food vendors next to Inverleith Park in Stockbridge has proved a favourite among locals in recent years.
Last year, locals could enjoy everything from Hawaiian poke balls, burgers, pizza and even a prosecco van.

This year, the line-up is much the same but with some interesting additions.
But what can you actually get for, say, £10 if you were to nip down to the market today?
First of all, if we are being honest with ourselves, £10 is not really enough for the market. Of the variety of stalls and vendors available, most of the food will be setting you back between £8 and £10 itself.
However, if you wanted to get yourself some sides, a drink or perhaps even some alcohol, then you should really be willing to pay more. Probably between £15 and £20 per person if we are being realistic, especially if you’re staying around for a few drinks.
But nevertheless, I went to the market with my £10 limit determined to find myself something decent.
As always, the selection of food on offer is quite varied. A Sri Lankan vendor was selling different kinds of Kottu- a Sri Lankan stir fry with roti and a selection of different meats. They were selling a chicken kottu for £9.
Edinburgh favourite Pizza Geeks were there selling their usual array of nerdy themed pizzas from “The Super Mario” to the interesting “Braveheart” which featured haggis and Stornoway black pudding. The Braveheart would set you back £8.50.
The Macman was also present for those of you who enjoy elaborate kinds of Mac and Cheese. Including “The Spicy Wan '' which featured harissa, chorizo and caramelised onions.
However, what caught my eye was a little Peruvian food stand called, funnily enough, The Peruvian, selling different types of stir fry.
I opted for the smoked pork on sweet potato fries with salsa criolla and aji verde, which cost £9.50,
Unfortunately, for that you don’t get too much. A small takeaway box with a modest amount of food in it.
What was there was pretty good, mostly just loaded sweet potato fries, some stir fried pork and a lot of salsa criolla and aji verde but that is still pretty great. The smoked pork was great, the sweet potato fries were nice and the lime from the aji verde cut through a lot of the richness and brightened up the dish. Next time I’m there I will probably try another one of the stalls but I certainly don’t regret giving this a try.
Which is the nice thing about the Neighbourhood Market. There’s a wide variety of food on offer and you can get it for a reasonable price. But if you’re planning on staying a while, I would advise you bring more than a tenner.
