Police are today hunting the robbers, who struck close to Starbucks on Brunton Lane. And today the victim, who asked not to be named, has told how the attack has left him terrified to go out.
He said: "At one point I thought I was going to die. I was terrified. I don't really want to leave my house now. I feel like I will just be looking over my shoulder all the time."
The victim was walking towards the coffee shop to get a drink before meeting his dad at Tesco when he was attacked, at around 3.30pm
"They came from behind. I was walking down to Starbucks and the next thing I know I have got a knife pointing at my chest.," he said.
"He was just saying; 'give us your jacket'."
The lad got hold of the attacker's hand in an attempt to keep the blade away from him while he was punched repeatedly in the face.
"I just didn't want him to stab me, so I grabbed his hand while he was punching me in the face," he said. "At one point it was like I was playing tug of war with him. It was like a fight or flight situation.
"He had a knife and it was in broad daylight so he obviously wasn't worried about being seen. It went on for about 10 minutes then they just got my jacket and ran."
The teenager, who is from Newbiggin Hall, went to Tesco where staff helped clean up his injuries.
"My mouth was pouring with blood," he said.
Police are now appealing for information about the attack.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 3.30pm we received a report of robbery on Brunton Lane, in the Kingston Park area of Newcastle.
“It was reported that the male victim was withdrawing money from a cash machine when he was approached by two men who demanded his jacket and wallet.
“The victim was then assaulted by the men, before they stole his jacket and wallet, which contained a quantity of cash.
“Both suspects, who were wearing balaclavas and gloves at the time of the robbery, made off in the direction of Kingston Park Metro Station.
“The victim suffered minor injuries to his face. Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing to witnesses to contact them."
And the victim said he will not feel safe until his attackers are caught.
He added: "Hopefully everything will get back to normal as soon as they get arrested. I'm worried because they are still out there. I just want to see them punished,"
