I Started Wearing Contact Lenses As A Chronic Glasses Wearer & Consider Me Converted
I’ll never forget that day in 2009 when I sat at the back of my classroom and realised I couldn’t read what the green and blue writing on the whiteboard said.
Fast forward to 16 years later, and I’ve lost track of the amount of optometrist appointments, glasses fittings, and dosh spent on being able to see clearly.
For the longest time, I religiously wore my glasses. Those black Alex Perry frames took me through every high, every low, and every long computer sesh.
That is, until I discovered the beauty of wearing contact lenses. Once I figured out how to pop those bad boys into my eyes, I never went back. Let me explain.
They’re firmly in place
I remember when I’d wear my glasses to go for a run or have a boogie on a night out, they’d be slipping and sliding all over the place. As soon as I felt that mild gleam of sweat hit my skin, it was all over. Those babies were not staying where I needed them to.
Nowadays, when it comes to something that I know I’ll be moving around for, I opt for my contacts every single time, and for good reason. I don’t need to worry about a disastrous slip ‘n slide incident where all of a sudden I’m borderline legally blind.
Fun fact: one time at Oxford Art Factory, my glasses genuinely flew off my face in the middle of a Panic! at the Disco tribute night. You cannot make this up.
My face becomes the main character
New makeup look? Lash extensions? Fresh out of a facial where my skin is looking the most flawless it’s ever looked?
Yep, you best believe I’m not wearing my glasses when that’s the case. Now, I do love my glasses, don’t get me wrong, but there are times where I want my face to be the main character, not the frames.
When I wear my contacts, I can both see perfectly and ensure other people see me perfectly, too. It’s great for my ego, especially when I’m having a Good Face Day.
The power of dual wear
In all honesty, the real power is switching between the two. When it comes to days I’m getting lash extensions done or nights where I know I’m about to get into bed and pass out in the blink of an eye, my glasses are the winner.
But, on the other hand, having the ability to switch to my contacts when I need them is a real blessing. It means that no matter the situation, I have an approach that’s going to work for me and make sure I’m not walking around squinting like no tomorrow.
