A woman who paid nearly £4,000 for a new set of gnashers claims they've left her unable to eat - and might all fall out.
Lisa Martin, 48, first travelled from her home in Kerry, Ireland to Turkey to have dental mono crowns fitted.
The crowns, which are a type of cap designed to restore the tooth, cost her £1,200 - but within weeks of returning home she noticed a small crack in one of the crowns.
Lisa booked another flight back to Turkey for a second procedure which involved filing down both sets of teeth and replacing them with more crowns - setting her back nearly £3,000.
But upon returning home for a second time, she realised something was seriously wrong.
Lisa developed an abscess, which spread on one side of her face and left her in excruciating pain.
After a panicked visit to her dentist, she was told she'd need several root canals, set to cost thousands of pounds, and would have to be reviewed every six months.
“I made a stupid decision based on cost and this will now affect me for the rest of my life,” Lisa said.
“Because all these teeth are joined, it turns into a huge job for the dentist to separate the crowns without breaking them to extract a tooth."
She added she's likely to lose her teeth and will have to have dentures fitted - it's just a matter of time as to when this happens.
Lisa has taken to TikTok to warn others of the dangers of having dental work abroad.
In one clip, she explains how much pain she's in and how sensitive her mouth is, and then pushes on two of her teeth.
She says she can feel her "fangs" underneath them, and that she's "exhausted" by the pain.
Underneath her videos, people have praised Lisa for her honesty about the problems she's faced since having the crowns fitted.
One person said: "Thanks for posting, we need to hear about the unsuccessful procedures. I would be interested in what your own dentist says."
Another wrote: "Worked in a dental surgery for a couple of years. Cases like this came in all the time. Feel so bad for you."
One person, who admitted they'd been considering having dental work done abroad for a little while, added Lisa's honesty had put her off.
Lisa said: “When going abroad to have your teeth done, it’s not in the best interest of the dentists to tell you the problems you may encounter.
“As you have someone with beautiful teeth telling you that you'll feel nothing, this sounds too good to be true for anyone with a complex about their teeth.
“They’ll say it only costs whatever amount and you’ll have great teeth in one week, with no pain."
Dentist Dr Shaadi Manouchehri, who has been practicing for seven years, has shared her expertise on the potential dangers of having crowns fitted.
She said: “Shaving healthy teeth down to pegs, can result in irreversible nerve damage which can cause pain and infection.
“The treatment required in most cases will be a root canal or if the teeth can’t be saved, extraction is the only option.
“Crowns need to be replaced every 15 years and there are minimally invasive alternatives to this treatment.”
