'I never used to' - Michael Owen makes Liverpool and Man City U-turn

Former Liverpool forward Michael Owen believes his old club now have 'more strength in depth' in their squad than Manchester City do.

Liverpool maintained their bid for an unprecedented quadruple after winning 2-0 at home to Everton on Sunday afternoon. Two second-half goals from Andy Robertson and substitute Divock Origi were enough for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The win moved the Reds, who will play Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup next month after beating the same team to win the Carabao Cup in February, one point behind leaders City in the Premier League table.

And following the action over the weekend, Owen has changed his mind about who is better equipped in the quality department between his old club and the reigning Premier League champions.

“I have been critical and it’s just the way they have been, but they have had 14, 15 or 16 top players,” the former England international told Premier League Productions.

“Then they have had four or five behind that weaken the side. Now I think they have much more strength in depth now. Much more.

“I think their squad is as good as Manchester City’s and I never used to say that. I always that Liverpool’s first XI was probably better than Man City’s. But Man City had strength in depth and they could rotate. I don’t anymore.”
