'I'm still shocked' - Manchester United fans share feelings as Cristiano Ronaldo leaves

Manchester United fans have mixed emotions as Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the club with immediate effect.

The writing appeared to be on the wall for Ronaldo following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan last week. During the 90 minute conversation on TalkTV, the 37-year-old slammed the club, Erik ten Hag, the Glazers and his ex-teammates Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney.

Following the airing of the interview, United released a statement which read that they were taking 'appropriate steps' to respond to Ronaldo's interview. In a statement released on Tuesday evening, the Reds confirmed his exit.

"Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team's progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch." While it was expected that Ronaldo would leave the club at the end of the season, or perhaps before in January, United supporters responding to the announcement had mixed emotions.

Here is what some of them said on Twitter.

All eyes, which were already firmly focused on Ronaldo, will continue to follow the 37-year-old star when he potentially takes to the field against Ghana in the Qatar World Cup on Thursday. Earlier this week, it appeared that Bruno Fernandes and Ronaldo shared an awkward conversation when the two men met each other for the first time following the Morgan chat.

Both have since said that they were having a joke during that exchange and Ronaldo in particular hit out at the media for making something out of the video clip.
