I'm A Celebrity trial exemption for Sue Cleaver explained as viewers praise Coronation Street star

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! made its much anticipated return to Irish TV on Sunday and is already bringing the drama.

In last night's episode, viewers were left wondering why Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver was exempt from yet another Bushtucker Trial.

Hosts And and Dec opened the phones lines ready for fans of the Virgin Media show to pick the next celebrity to take on a new trial, before revealing 59-year-old Sue was not be eligible to take part in the eating challenge at the elusive 'La Cucaracha Cafe'.

One fan took to social media to ask: "Why is Sue exempt from an eating trial #ImACeleb confused," with another adding: "How the hell can Sue be exempt from an EATING TRIAL? #ImACeleb."

While it hasn't been officially confirmed why the soap star has been spared from potentially being picked to face some Bushtucker Trials, some believe it may be related to the star's health, Mirror UK reports.

"Does Sue Cleaver have diabetes? I thought I spotted an insulin arm patch on her and now she’s exempt from the eating trial," one eagle-eyed viewer mused on Twitter on Thursday night.

What the patch on Sue's arm is hasn't been confirmed but it could possibly be a Dexcom, something used by people who live with diabetes.

Sue's Type 2 diabetes diagnosis first became public knowledge back in 2011, when the soap star received hospital treatment after collapsing on the set of Coronation Street.

According to the HSE, diabetes can be a lifelong condition that causes a person's blood sugar level to become too high. There are two main types of diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes - the type Sue has - is when the sufferer's body cannot produce enough insulin.

A 2015 study showed that 10% of adults aged 50 and over in Ireland have Type 2 diabetes, rising to 16% in those aged 80 and over

As Sue seemingly wears a Dexcom on I'm A Celebrity, fans of the show have been praising the actress for normalising living life with diabetes and not hiding her monitor.

"If Sue is diabetic glad that she’s actively showing the glucose monitor & not hiding it away like it’s something to be ashamed of #ImACeleb #diabetes," one tweet reads online.

"Fab to see @Sue_Cleaver wearing her dexcom #positiverolemodel @imacelebrity," another viewer wrote when praising the star, with a third declaring: "sue slaying with her dexcom."

Speaking in support of Diabetes Week previously, Sue told Diabetesadvice.co.uk advised: "Having good control of diabetes is really important - after all, people with the condition live with it every day, taking care of their diet and physical activity levels."
