I'm A Celebrity to feature major change to opening format as bosses promise huge twist

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here bosses have ripped up the show's opening format in Australia and say it will be bigger and better than ever.

Celebs will be split into THREE groups instead of usual two with multiple challenges and some famous faces not making it into camp even by the time Sunday's opening show is over.

Executive Producer Olly Nash said of plans for the series opener: "It's much bigger than we've ever done before. And we're filming more(challenges) than we've ever filmed before.

"There'll be more elements lasting over more shows than has happened before too, so it's not all just going to be limited to show one. Not all celebrities will be here in camp at the end of Sunday's show."

Traditionally there have been two teams competing at the start of the show with one winning luxuries whilst the others begin with basic rations.

But Olly added: "The contestants will be coming into camp in three groups, in stages.

"The first three celebrities will be followed by another three celebrities and they will get the pick of the beds."

As well as the opening team challenges, there will also be a total of 24 bushtucker trials in the new series, with more featuring two players than ever before, meaning more celebrities will face punishment

Once in camp they could decide to sleep in the new bunk beds which have been installed. Two lucky celebs will also win the chance to sleep in the luxury motorhome which has been installed.

Olly said: "We have bunk beds which is a first for I'm A Celebrity and then we have a Luxury RV that was driven through the jungle about 35 years ago, broke down and was never moved. That will make a very comfy home for two people inside there."

* The new series of I'm A Celebrity kicks off on Sunday night at 9pm.
