I'm A Celebrity stars aren't allowed to 'know what time it is' as strict rules revealed

A former campmate has revealed some of the unknown rules stars have to follow when appearing on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!

Royal commentator Jennie Bond, who enjoyed a stint in the jungle back in 2004, recalls some of the strangest rules ITV bosses implement that viewers may not be aware of.

Jennie, 72, made it all the way to the final when she roughed it in the jungle Down Under for the third series of the reality TV show, missing out on the crown to Kerry Katona who became the first ever Queen of the Jungle.

The former BBC royal correspondent, who camped alongside Katie Price and Peter Andre, claims the celebrities were keen to take on Bushtucker Trials purely to enjoy a change of scenery and spend a few hours away from the cramped camp.

She explains how while the trials may be 'unpleasant', they can break up long, boring days spent bickering around the campfire.

Jennie goes on to add how celebrities are taught a few essential jungle skills before heading into camp, like learning how to start a fire.

But the juiciest secret Jennie reveals is the admission producers don't allow the star campers to know what time it is while in the Australian outback.

"You get woken up by some loud speaker at some unearthly hour. And then you've got hours and hours and hours and hours to do nothing," the journalist recalls to The Sun.

She added: "You're not allowed to know what time it is."

Jennie seemingly enjoyed her time in the jungle - dubbing I'm A Celebrity "the most real reality TV show" - unlike her former campmate Kerry.

The former Atomic Kitten singer, 42, recently explained how the ITV show "brings back some bad feelings" as her life drastically changed following her success in the jungle almost 20 years ago.

Kerry was married to former Westlife singer Brian McFadden when she headed Down Under in January 2004, but the couple called time on their relationship later the same year - just months on from the star being crowned Queen of the Jungle.

Jennie's admissions comes as another I'm A Celebrity alumni also reveals some behind the scenes secrets about the star-studded reality TV show.

Speaking on Loose Women earlier this month, Janet Street-Porter compared camping in the jungle to "being in a hostage situation" as she defended her colleague Charlene White.

Despite claiming she "would have physically assaulted Matt Hancock" had she been on the show this year, Janet tried to explain why Charlene wasn't too hard on the disgraced MP during her time camping with him.

"He's providing food and you are in a hostage situation," Janet argued. "Ok, you're being paid a lot of money but it's a hostage situation nonetheless."

She went on to add how the celebrities are 'forced to sit around the fire and bond' and recalled being marched back to camp by producers whenever she tried to have a wander in the jungle during her time Down Under.
