In an area surrounded by many trees and “lovely and helpful neighbours”, people in Wollaton have spoken out about what they like so much about living in the area. With many bringing up the landmark Wollaton Park, it seems that the area hardly has any faults.
Wollaton is home to Ofsted rated ‘outstanding’ secondary school Bluecoat Academy, pubs, East Midlands biggest hospital and of course, Wollaton Park. One person who spoke to Nottinghamshire Live beamed and said: “I live in paradise.”
In different streets in Wollaton, people spoke out to Nottinghamshire Live about the area where they live and love. Anne Chaplin, 54-years-old, a dinner lady who lives in Wollaton also had many good things to say about the area. Anne, who has lived in Wollaton for 25 years said: “The area is great.
“I have a wonderful view from my back garden of all the greenery and the area - apart from at rush hour is just so quiet. We’re a short drive away from the Beechdale retail park, there’s a Coop in the area near a nice fish and chip shop which is popular with all the school children.
“The roads do get manic sometimes, I think people go too fast on the roundabout near Middleton Boulevard but apart from that, I’ve never had any complaints about Wollaton. I love it when the lights come to the park at Christmas too.
“Nothing really happens in the area, I’ll be on the phone to my friends sometimes and they’ll be telling me how there were police speeding past earlier or that something nearby had happened. There’s none of that here, thankfully.”
Amanda Flemming, 32 self-employed from Wollaton has lived in the area for nine years with her husband and 7-year-old son, told Nottinghamshire live: “The area is fantastic. I’m originally from London so I’m used to the past pace of the city but here is so different.
“Wollaton is lovely and quiet, my neighbours are great and there’s Wollaton Park that is absolutely gorgeous all year round. My family like going for walks at Wollaton Park and I have so many pictures of the park in the snow. My son loves it when he sees the deer.”
“I definitely have no plans on moving and when I did move from London and saw this area, I just knew that we’d end up moving here. It was between Wollaton, West Bridgford or Stapleford.”
Michael Bonser, 68 who is now retired and has lived in Wollaton for nearly 40 years, said: “It’s lovely. Although I go to Rushcliffe Park, not Wollaton Park because it isn’t clean.
“I like the Co-Ops in the area, I use both and I go to all three Lidls which are within walking distance. I live in paradise, just look at the area!”
Michael continued and said: “I used to do the quiz for 12 years at the Wheelhouse pub and I used to go to the Wollaton Kitchen but that’s too expensive now. The area is great with people of all ethnicities and religions who are all helpful.”
One person who decided to remain anonymous spoke about her favourite things about the area. She said: “I know that the community centre garden used to be a bowling green long ago. I like that there’s lots of trees in the area, the traffic however can be horrendous, on this road there should be stopping but people still do.
“The Middleton Boulevard shop's car park is inadequate and I miss the Waitrose, it was popular as there was a cafe. Lidl doesn’t have a cafe. I have very good neighbours. I had COVID last week and my neighbours all offered to go shopping for me.”
