I know for certain Derek McInnes will solve decade-long issue at Rangers

The appointment of Derek McInnes at Rangers seems to be earning almost universal approval among pundits.

The feeling seems to be that the former Ibrox midfielder is exactly what the club needs at exactly the right time.

A lifelong fan of the club who went on to play for them, and has since racked up invaluable experience of the Scottish game as manager of St Johnstone, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Hearts.

Having the latter a whisker away from a first title since 1960 helps too.

Pundit Rory Loy feels the 54-year-old will bring standards back to Rangers and sort out the mentality issue that the club has been suffering from for 10 yars.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Podcast he said: “To think three or four weeks ago, some Rangers fans, given the decline after the split, were looking to move him [Rohl] on.

“To get money for him and to use that money to recruit Derek McInnes, I don’t think it could have fallen more favourably for Rangers.

“The one thing Derek McInnes will bring above all else is the one thing that’s been levelled at Rangers for the last decade, that’s what is between the ears, that’s mentality.”
