'I just want to go to sleep' said boy before he died in mum's arms

A young boy lay bleeding out in his mother's arms after he was stabbed in a park.

July 3 marks a devastating loss for Mandy Jamieson, who has recalled the tragic moment her much-loved son died in her arms. Back in 2018, Daniel Gee-Jamieson, 16, died after sustaining a fatal stab wound at a park just off Belle Vale Road in Gateacre.

As mum Mandy held her son in her arms, Daniel said: "Mum, I just want to go to sleep." Today marks five years since Daniel was killed, but for Mandy, it feels like yesterday.

She has spoken of the heart-breaking moment she held her son in her arms as the "colour drained from his face and he bled out". She told the ECHO: "A lady knocked on my door and grabbed me saying my son has been stabbed, it was only at the top of the road. His friend was in the car crying, saying he was sorry.

"We were only in the car seconds but when I got there it was chaos. A woman had her hands inside him trying to stem the bleeding. It was horrific."

For years, Mandy said her son had been "relentlessly bullied" when one day he decided to put an end to it all. She added: "He asked for a straightener and he won the fight, but he was stabbed and it was a catastrophic bleed.

"Daniel just wanted peace in his life. He was a mummy's boy and I'm not ashamed to say I loved every minute of that.

"He's the only one of my kids that looked like me, the girls look like their dad. He was funny, very quick to have a laugh but had a big heart.

"People think kids with ADHD are naughty, they aren't, they have feelings they just struggle with their emotions. He was a good kid, he caused murder in my house daily but I wouldn't change him for the world.

Mandy said her son Daniel was a "happy" boy (Mandy Jamieson)

"Me and his dad miss him and that's wrong, his life was over too soon. I miss him so much. You have a heart and it's like someone has taken a quarter of it away so I'm not complete anymore. I'd much rather them have taken me than him."

In the wake of her son's death, Mandy has set up Danny’s Place, a social enterprise keeping his memory alive - speaking to young people about the wider effects knife crime has on all those involved. Danny's Place has now teamed up with the Ava White Foundation to launch a petition for a law change to ensure anyone found guilty of illegal possession of a knife will receive a mandatory 10-year sentence.

Ava White was just 12 years old when she was killed by a boy just two years older than her after an argument over a video posted on Snapchat in November 2021. The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was jailed for 13 years after stabbing the schoolgirl in the neck with a flick knife in Liverpool City Centre.

The petition can be found here.

Mandy previously spoke out about how she is "living a life sentence" as she said every day is the same. To mark the date of his death, Mandy will be holding a balloon release at Allerton cemetery in memory of her son as she pledges to continue her fight in making a change in his name.
