‘I just felt bad for her’: Waiter serves couple on first date. Then the man orders queso, margarita before doing something unexpected

First dates can be nerve-wracking. We’re dressing up to impress in hopes of sparking a romance, while the fear of rejection looms in the forefront of our minds. However, some don’t even make it through the first date. Server and TikTok creator Zeke (@takingit_ez) shared how this happened to one of his customers during a shift to more than 243,000 viewers.

“This guy walks in and he sits down and grabs the chips. He’s looking at the drink menu,” he says while sitting in his car. When he approaches the table, the customer orders an expensive drink.

“He’s like,’ I’m gonna get a top shelf and a watermelon with Tajin,” he says the customer told him. Once the content creator drops off the drink, the customer’s date arrives. Immediately, he sensed their uncomfortable greeting.

“He gets up and gives a side hug but it was like they were awkward. I think it was a first date,” he recalls. “They ordered a queso and then she gets a water.”

What did the server see?

When Zeke returned with their order, he noticed one of the customers wasn’t there. “I get the water and bring the queso back, and the guy is gone. The Margarita is still sitting there,” he shares. Initially, he says he thought the customer went to the bathroom. But what the date told him proved otherwise.

“She’s like, ‘He said something about a family emergency,’” he recalls the date saying. To add insult to injury, the customer allegedly abandoned her with the tab. “He just left. He didn’t leave a card, cash, nothing,” the content creator says.

As a result, he decided to remove one of the items, but felt the reason for the customer to abandon his date was questionable. “That’s a 20-something dollar off rip. So, I took off the queso,” he says. “I’m pretty sure this guy just made up an excuse to leave.”

Overall, his heart broke for the female customer. “Making her pay for everything you got and all she got was water. I just feel bad for her,” the content creator concludes.

A common occurrence?

A YouGov survey found that 25% of people have been stood up on a date, while 17% have stood someone up. So, what Zeke witnessed wasn’t entirely rare. Even some servers in the comments section can attest to this, having seen this happen to customers firsthand.

“Stuff like this happens all the time in the restaurant industry. I always feel so bad,” one viewer shared.

“I’ve had [something] similar happen at one of my tables. It’s so sad,” another recalled.

“Seeing ppl get stood up as a server actually sucks, especially when it comes to the bill bc u can only do sm,” a third stated.

However, others would’ve refused to pay the tab if they were in the female customer’s position.

“Sorry but I wouldn’t be paying for his stuff. I’d say call the cops and I’ll give you his info to collect,” one commenter remarked.

“All she got was a water and she had to pay for his food and he left. Hell, no would not have been me,” a second agreed.

If this ever happens, inform the on-duty manager, explain the situation, and pay for your tab. Whether you have to pay for the other person’s meal is up to the establishment. Since this is a form of dining and dashing, which is a crime, it should be reported to the police, ABC states.
