I Just Binged Sterling Point, And Yes, I Think There's A 'Right' Choice To The Love Triangle

From left to right: Rory, Annie and Ellis in a side-by-side-by-side from Sterling Point. .

Spoilers for Sterling Point are ahead! You can stream the series with an Amazon Prime subscription.

The new critically acclaimed series, Sterling Point, reminded me of those messy early 2000s YA dramas I grew up loving, and that’s thanks to the wildly complex family situations and a classic love triangle. However, this love triangle left me feeling a bit different than normal, because while I think the only right choice for our main girl Annie (Ella Rubin) is Ellis (Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie), I also didn’t want anything bad to happen to Rory (Daniel Quinn Toye). So, with that being said, let’s discuss my complex feelings about this love triangle that also feels quite obvious.

Allow me to set the stage before we dive into the details. When Annie arrives at Sterling Point, she meets Ellis, the son of the guy who owns the marina, and she reunites with Rory, an old childhood friend whose family has a house in the area. She quickly develops sparks with both of them, and as this series on the 2026 TV schedule progresses, she has romantic relationships with them. However, she ultimately ends up with Ellis, which I think is the correct choice.

I Do Think Ellis Is The Correct And Only Choice For Annie

From the second Ellis took Annie to Sterling Point in his plane, I was shipping them. I saw the immediate sparks, noticed their chemistry, and was very excited to see their relationship develop. And I loved the slow(ish) burn of it. I was so here for it taking almost the entire season for them to realize their feelings for each other, and when Ellis finally slid Annie across the floor to kiss her, I was ready to scream.

These two also really supported each other and seemed to get one another, despite being from totally different worlds. That mutual respect and admiration was infectious, and I’m desperate to see how they are as an actual couple.

Overall, when Ellis and Annie finally accepted their feelings for each other, I felt like they really only had eyes for each other, and seeing them come to terms with that was lovely. So, yes, I do think Ellis is the best and only option for Annie.

I Don’t Want This To Be The End Of Rory And Annie’s Relationship

However, this is not a dig at Rory, not even in the slightest. I actually really like him, and only want what’s best for him. And I think what’s best for him is not Annie.

This reminds me of the age-old Team Damon or Team Stefan debate from The Vampire Diaries. While I was aggressively supporting Ian Somerhalder’s Damon, I also never, ever hated Paul Wesley’s Stefan, and I always wanted what was best for him. That meant I was all for shipping Stefan with other characters.

And that’s exactly what I’d like to do with Rory on Sterling Point. I think he’s a very interesting character (I need to know more about his complex history with piano), and I think he’s a great friend to Annie. He supported her throughout Season 1, and genuinely cared about her. So, I’d like their relationship to continue without the romance, and I’d like Rory to find someone who only has eyes for him.

What I really loved about this love triangle was that Annie had genuine and real connections with both boys. While it was stronger romantically with Ellis, what she had with Rory was not nothing, and I hope their romantic relationship ending doesn’t mean the end of their relationship altogether.

Overall, I think the future is bright for all three of these characters, and I cannot wait to see Rory and Ellis’ romance go to the next level while Rory figures out his friendship with Annie. However, first, Sterling Point has to get renewed for Season 2 and get moving like other hit Prime Video shows. Then hopefully, we can return to this island and this romantic situation as quickly as possible, because I need more of it.
