Richarlison is the one player from among Everton’s three most-valuable assets who Frank Lampard is likely to cash in on this summer – if the price is right. That’s the verdict of ECHO content editor Paul Wheelock, when speaking to the Royal Blue podcast.
Richarlison’s position has been under scrutiny all summer following comments he made about his future at the end of May and Chelsea are now understood to be considering a move for him. Given that Financial Fair Play restrictions might force Lampard to sell one of Everton’s big names to revamp his playing staff, Wheelock believes the Brazilian is the prime candidate.
He said: “Personally speaking, I think one has to go because it’s got to allow for Frank to stamp his mark on this squad really because while they did what they needed to do at the end of last season, for too long the vast majority of this squad have underperformed, so it does need a bit of a clean sweep and we’ve got to see what a true Frank Lampard team looks like going forward. Obviously when he came in, you could see he had a certain idea about how he wanted to play and then we had games like Tottenham away and I think the penny dropped after Burnley that now was maybe not the time for his football philosophy but time for getting the points needed.
