'I found a cockroach alive and moving in my KFC meal - I will never eat there again'

A KFC diner was disgusted to find an "alive and moving" cockroach inside his meal.

Josh Hanbury, 29, "instantly felt sick" when he saw the creature moving in the popcorn chicken box, part of the Zinger Tower Meal, he bought at the branch in Newport, south Wales.

Now he has vowed to never return to the restaurant in the east of the city again.

Speaking to Wales Online, Josh said: "I put the last three pieces into my mouth and saw something moving in the bottom of the box. Then realised it was a cockroach.

"I instantly felt sick so didn’t want to finish the meal even though I paid £15 for it."

Josh, of Newport, said the creature inside the popcorn chicken box appeared to be 'alive and moving' (Josh Hanbury/Media Wales)

He claimed the bug was "alive and moving".

"I was eating in the car park, so I walked straight back into the store and asked for a manager," Josh continued.

"The manager was immediately apologetic but didn’t offer me a refund. I was quite frustrated [with] the fact he didn’t offer me [that]. Instead he gave me more food which I didn’t eat.

"I hardly ever go to any KFC. That’s the first time it’s ever happened to me."

Asked if the experience had put him off returning there, he said: "Yes, 100 per cent. I’m never eating from there again."

A KFC spokesperson said the chain couldn't understand how the creature would have survived the cooking process and apologised to the man.

They said: "We must admit we were surprised by this image… Our chicken is freshly prepared, cooked at 365 degrees and served soon after so it'd be quite something to survive that.

"We have very strict hygiene and quality processes at our restaurants and the Newport restaurant has a five-star EHO rating, but we’d love Josh to get in touch to fully understand how this happened so we can investigate and help make it right."
