'I don't know why' - Former Arsenal star makes Declan Rice transfer claim amid Chelsea links

It's fair to say Declan Rice has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. The West Ham captain leads by example every week and as a result is the subject of constant transfer speculation.

That transfer speculation normally links him with Chelsea. Understandable given he was on the books as a youth there before moving to the Hammers and is best friends with Mason Mount.

David Moyes has openly spoken about Rice and his future at the London Stadium. The Hammers boss has admitted it would take an offer of more than £100million for West Ham to think about selling and it's clear to see why.

Rice has been in imperious form for the Three Lions as they have made their way to the quarter-finals of the World Cup. They will meet France in the last eight on Saturday evening.

And one former London player believes Rice is England's best player. Frenchman William Gallas, speaking to Genting Casino, says no one in the England squad scares him ahead of the clash on Saturday, but the Hammers skipper is the best in the 26-man squad.

He said: "No one scares me in this England team. I'm not scared about one player but Declan Rice is England's best player and no one is really speaking about him but he's unbelievable. He does the same thing with West Ham and I don't know why he's still there. For a long time, I've not seen a midfielder like him - he's strong, powerful and technically he's unbelievable.

"I'm more scared about England's midfield three than just one player."
