Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Paul Tierney told him he should have been sent off for his reaction to the fourth official in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Tottenham.
The 55-year-old stormed over to John Brooks when Diogo Jota fired the Reds back in front in the 94th minute - 99 seconds after Richarlison had levelled for Spurs in a topsy-turvy affair at Anfield. Klopp appeared to be furious with Tottenham being awarded a free-kick which led to their equaliser.
He expressed his frustration at the fourth official and ended up pulling his hamstring in the process. However, Klopp didn't stop there as the Liverpool boss slammed Tierney in his post-match interview and claimed he doesn't know whether the referee has a problem with the Reds.
Ahead of Liverpool's game against Fulham on Wednesday, Klopp has opened up on the incident and detailed what Tierney told him on the pitch. Klopp admitted Tierney said he should have been handed a red card.
"The whole situation shouldn't have happened at all," Klopp said. "It was out of emotion, anger and that is never a good leader for the things you do. I was still angry, which led to the way I celebrated.
"I was shouting 'Without you, without you', which didn't really make much sense. Paul Tierney came over to me and I didn't expect for a second a red card. He said 'For me, it's a red card'. 'Red card for what?' I tried to calm down, didn't work out properly and then went into the interviews.
"Maybe I should have said he told me it was a red card and I didn't think it was. The rest of the things I said about how I feel about Paul Tierney whistling his games, I'm sure he is not doing intentionally but there is history. These things that happened in the past, in decisive games, happened. That's a feeling, nothing else.
"The refs are really angry about what I said, they say I was lying now. I didn't lie.
"I shouldn't have said what I said but I didn't lie. It's not my hands what goes on now. We won a game 4-3 in a spectacular manner and only headlines I created [were negative]. We expect a reaction because everyone tells us something (punishment) will come."
Klopp is facing the possibility of the FA ban, with the FA investigating his behaviour. The PGMOL have listened to the audio of his confrontation with Tierney and concluded the referee had "acted in a professional manner throughout" the incident on Merseyside.
"I probably have to expect a punishment," Klopp added. "Refs think I questioned their integrity which if I am sitting here now calm, I don't do. The red card versus City was the same spot and player, Mo Salah involved."
