DALLAS — In Ferris, Virginia January has a little shrine to Jesse Plemons, her grandson, and Kirsten Dunst, her granddaughter-in-law, at her antique shop.
Expect even more tributes to the couple at The Ivy Cottage after January watched the 94th Academy Awards at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Sunday night.
Plemons and Dunst, who live in Austin, were both nominated as supporting actor and actress, respectively, for their performances in "The Power of the Dog," a Western drama on Netflix. The film led this year’s nominations with 12, including best picture.
Plemons and Dunst didn’t win, but that didn’t stop the cheering at January’s Oscar watch party Sunday night. January, 88, has been Plemons’ biggest fan.
The family celebrated with games and cupcakes. Plemons did a FaceTime chat before the red carpet.
“We were so proud they were nominated,” January said. “Kirsten and Jesse should have won, but I know all the winners were very deserving.”
Troy Kotsur won best supporting actor for "CODA."
“Jesse couldn’t have lost to a better guy,” January said. “If Jesse didn’t win, I was glad it was that guy. But I did want Jesse to win so bad.”
Ariana DeBose took the Oscar for best-supporting actress for "West Side Story."
Plemons and Dunst did get additional air time at their table when Amy Schumer did a bit about seat fillers. She jokingly confused Dunst for a seat filler.
Dunst and Plemons began dating in 2016 after starring alongside each other in season 2 of FX’s "Fargo"; they became engaged a year later, People reported.
As Plemons and Dunst posed on the red carpet, they gave a shout-out to their 3-year-old and 11-month-old sons.
“They’re in Atlanta right now because that’s where I’m working, and they’re at a toddler Oscars party,” Dunst, 39, told People.
The couple and children stopped at January’s house for Christmas.
“Their pictures are all over my shop,” January said. “If you’re ever in the shop, you’ll hear about Jesse.”
